PAINT & PINTURA
Step on the gas!
Clipping
T
his issue of the Paint & Pintura magazine brings you the entire coverage of the 13th Paint &
Pintura Awards, which were presented in a fall evening on May 15, at an event that was once
again a real success in the paint market. The article is full of photos of all award winners and in-
cludes the remarks of each. It is worth checking it out, after all, the party happens just once a year.
In addition, we cannot excuse ourselves from remarking how rewarding it is to report on a market
that is so optimistic about 2009 right in the middle of the hurricane that is the economic crisis.
The Paint & Pintura team was able to demonstrate that in the reports on organic pigments and metallic
packaging materials that are published in this issue. Companies are betting that a significant improve-
ment will start in the second half, and, in order for that to actually happen, not only are they expecting
some improvement in the economy, they are also pulling some strings by investing in the development of
new products, further adjusting their structures, improving services, focusing on customers, adjusting
inventories and costs, and forming partnerships, i.e. adapting for the new reality and the new pace of
industrial operations.
Such strategies will allow them to make up for any losses possibly arising out of the economic crisis with a
much greater degree of security. As the title says, they are stepping on the gas. This is what the companies
in the paint industry are doing now, making their best efforts to achieve satisfactory results in 2009 and
getting ready to emerge even stronger from this crisis.
Another highlight of this issue is Abrafati’s new forecasts for 2009. According to the entity, the result for
this year will be the second best in the industry’s history, notwithstanding the effects of the crisis.
The prospects are much brighter than we thought they would be. It’s just a matter of not giving up! Let
each of us continue to do our share, and we’ll soon reap the rewards. Enjoy!

lines and the demand from customers have fallen,
leading to a decrease in pigment sales and adverse
impacts on inventories worldwide, with additional
costs and large amounts of stored raw materials
and finished goods.
In spite of all negative factors, the crisis has also
brought about an opportunity for growing and
maturing that is helping companies review bu-
siness concepts and partnerships, while seeking
creative solutions to survive. Without a doubt, this
has been a very tough year for all industries, but
that also provides an opportunity for companies to
review and update their models and paradigms.
Right now, some markets are also on a recovery
path, and cost increases are also taking place for
some of the raw materials used in the production
of organic pigments, underpinned by the slight
recovery of oil prices. But the prices for raw mate-
rials for organic pigments are still expected to re-
main unstable for some time, requiring financially
