hydrocarbons (PAHs), benzene extracts and aromatic amines
must be determined;
Oligomers: They must have a high molecular weight, a low
rate of free acrylic acid, low odor and good reactivity.
Conjuncture - Abrafati reviews forecasts for 2009
The Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers, known
for short as Abrafati, announced during a press conference
in May 27 new forecasts for 2009. The impact of the world
crisis on Brazil was greater than it was expected to be back
in late 2008. Therefore, Abrafati brought together in late
April the most important leaders in the paint supply chain
to discuss the scenarios for the industry at the Abrafati
Forum of Paint Manufacturers – 2009 Review.
Already having the data for the first quarter of 2009, the
conclusion of the forum was that paint sales, taken as
a whole, will decrease by 3 percent in volume this year
compared to 2008. “Last year, all segments of the paint
industry had very positive results, and that raised the bar
for comparison. The year 2009 began with a steep fall in
sales compared to last year. Some improvement is slowly
taking place, indicating that we are not going to reach the
same level as in 2008. Therefore, we believe that sales will
amount to 1.1 billion liters in 2009. It is a little less than last
year, but still very significant. Historically speaking, it will
be the second largest volume ever reached by the industry,”
explains Fernando Peres, chairman of the Abrafati Manage-
ment Board.
