PAINT & PINTURA
Good news!
Clipping
A
s one of the most important events in the paint industry, the timing is perfect for Abrafati 2009.
Even though Brazil is still experiencing the adverse effects of the economic crisis, this trade
show will certainly send some good vibrations to the paint industry, not to mention that it will
help to boost sales.
You, readers, will see on the following pages of Paint & Pintura Magazine the Preview of
Abrafati 2009 (11th International Exhibition of Suppliers to the Paint Industry and 11th In-
ternational Paint Congress), which will take place on September 23 to 25 in São Paulo, promising to shake
the marketplace and bring the best there is in innovative products and services. Under the theme “The
Paint of The Future,” exhibitors and congress speakers will emphasize sustainability in the paint supply
chain.
The preview clearly shows the great efforts made by those companies who did not give up participating
in the show, and actually contributed to the industry’s growth, especially through research and develop-
ment of environment-friendlier alternatives, which are now paramount in the paint industry.
Also in this issue, Dilson Ferreira, chief executive officer at Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers,
known for short as Abrafati, the entity which organized the event, gave an exclusive interview to the
magazine, and talked about the novelties for the trade show, while providing an overview of 2009 and his
outlook for 2010.
From the comments by Abrafati’s CEO, we can conclude that some measures are helping the industry pick
up. Thanks to a series of initiatives designed to enhance competitiveness, stimulate business, improve
paint quality, encourage research, protect the environment and further qualify and train painters and
professionals engaged in the paint business, as well as the tax cut for industrial products, the expan-
sion of credit for new homes and renovations, and the projects carried out under the PAC (Portuguese
acronym for Economic Growth Acceleration Program), the crisis did not prevent the industry from develo-
ping.
In addition, even though there will be no economic growth this year, the paint industry’s sales for the
year are projected at 1.1 million liters, representing its second best result ever. For 2010, the market as a
whole expects to resume sustainable growth.
Let’s keep optimistic and confident that the paint market will get back to the growth levels of the pre-
vious few years!
