brafati 2009 has contributed to the upturn in the paint and coatings market. During the three
days of the trade show, companies in the industry exhibited all that’s new in terms of tech-
nologies, products, raw materials, processes, services and equipment, which will help to find
better paths towards a more sustainable future in the paint industry by reducing its envi-
ronmental impact. The Congress was focused on new research and development efforts for
the paint of the future, stressing sustainability and nano-technology.
Optimism was apparent all around the trade show venue, where companies invested in their booths and
were even able to celebrate deals closed and contact potential customers. In addition, Abrafati 2009 was
the official launch-pad of Paint & Pintura TV, an exclusive channel on the Internet created by Agnelo
Editora for the paint and coatings industry, whose specialized team showed what happened behind the
scenes of the show, including new products and services introduced by exhibiting companies, opinions of
several congress participants and guests, and an interview with Dilson Ferreira, chief executive officer,
and Fernando Peres, chairman of the supervisory board of Abrafati.

Interview - Golden jubilee
Approaching 50 years of service at Hoechst/Cla-
riant, Eide Paulo de Oliveira has a life story with
the company which combines professionalism,
connections, friendships, and thankfulness for
the opportunity to grow in a corporation that he
joined at the age of 14 as an office-boy, taking
positions of increasing responsibility up until
becoming director of the Pigments and Additives
Division for Latin America.
Recalling his trajectory, Eide Paulo mentioned a
few particular facts, including when he nearly
left the company because he couldn’t adapt for
a restructuring process, and also named people
who have been part of his day-to-day life and who
were his mentors in some of the positions he held.
Eide Paulo attaches great importance to his family
as well, who have been with him all along. He
made a point of mentioning his mother (currently
95 years old), his wife, to whom he’s been married
for 37 years, and his two daughters.
Eide Paulo usually says that luck is when prepara-
tion meets opportunity, and has been quite a privi-
