PAINT & PINTURA

creativity to overcome a period that was very difficult to all. Everyone
who’s here tonight deserves our congratulations.”
Also mentioned by Agnelo de Barros Neto were the 50-year anniver-
sary of the Brazilian Association of Chemical and Petrochemical Dis-
tributors, known for short as Associquim, and the 70th anniversary
of Sintirj, short for Union of Paint and Varnish Manufacturers of Rio
de Janeiro. “These entities have been and will continue to be essential
to the growth of the paint industry in Brazil. The 50th anniversary of
Associquim, which coincided with the EBDQUIM trade show, was an
event of great importance for the industry. In addition, this year we
will also celebrate the 70 years of Sintirj,” Barros pointed out.
Events that are very important to the industry were also mentioned
in the speech. “Major events are going to take place this year, such as
Feitintas, to be held from September 22 to 25, and Latincoat & Adhe-
sives, from October 26 to 28. Relevant trade shows like these further
contribute to the development of a currently fast-growing industry.
In fact, we expect the industry to grow 10 percent in 2010,” said
Barros, adding that the Paint & Pintura Awards are the industry’s
most important networking opportunity in Latin America. “There is
no other event so big as this bringing together the entire paint value
chain in Latin America.”
Notwithstanding the economic crisis in 2009, the paint industry con-
tinues to grow rapidly. According to data provided by the Brazilian
Association of Paint Manufacturers, known for short as Abrafati, the
industry’s total sales hit US$ 3.03 billion in 2009, with a production
volume of 1.232 billion liters. As to the growth forecast for 2010 over
2009, the entity announces something in the neighborhood of 3.4
percent.
The paint manufacturers, suppliers to the industry and personalities
presented with the Paint & Pintura Awards in this 14th edition tota-
led 53 categories. The survey began on January 14 and extended until
April 16. Altogether, 80 paint manufacturers answered the survey,
which represents around 80 percent of the country’s paint market.
The survey was also answered by 207 suppliers and related compa-
nies.
The trophies and certificates were presented by renowned paint in-
dustry executives. In the paint manufacturer categories, the winners
received their awards from the hands of the industry’s most impor-
tant officials: Dilson Ferreira, president of Abrafati; Guilherme de
Souza Pires, president of Sintirj; Ricardo Stiepcich, president of Siti-
vesp; and Amilcar José de Sá, president of Artesp.
To close the event in grand style, Agnelo Editora’s chief executive
officer drew out a weekend for two at Hotel Santana, in the town
of Amparo, São Paulo, and the winner was Colornet director Marcos
Raicher. Then, all guests listened and danced to the music played by
DJ Glauco of São Paulo’s 97 FM radio station.
