PAINT & PINTURA
Organic Pigments - Color performance
With the technological breakthroughs achieved by
organic pigments, which are less harmful to the
environment, manufacturers have succeeded in
expanding their applications, up to the point that
they are now used in virtually all kinds of paints.
Organic pigments are very versatile when it comes
to their applications in paints because they can
be used in very different types of paints, varying
according to their quality and performance require-
ments. Organic pigments of various chemical classes
can be used and standardized in both automotive
coatings (high performance) and decorative paints
for interiors, as they are a type of pigment that pro-
vides high hiding power combined with vivid, glossy
colors.
For exteriors, however, special care is required for
their light fastness because, in spite of the high hi-
ding power of organic pigments, the vivid and glossy
colors that they provide may fade over time, unlike
inorganic pigments, because many molecules have
low light fastness.
They are used in practically all sorts of paints and
industry segments, depending on the specification
and application of the products in which they are
present. Organic pigments are now very advanced
technologically speaking, adding properties that
used to be provided only by inorganic pigments.
There are performance pigment families featuring
heat and weathering resistance, as well as great
light fastness. In addition, with the replacement of
heavy metals in several products, organic pigments
have been gaining more and more ground.
This all helps to expand the application spectrum of
organic pigments in the paint industry. From more
traditional compositions to performance pigments,
today there are options for a wide variety of syste-
ms, making formulations much more flexible.
Mineração Monte Pascoal - Expanded portfolio
Established in the Brazilian market in 1993, Mine-
ração de Caulim Monte Pascoal is located in Prado,
State of Bahia, where it owns an industrial plant
with capacity of 60,000 tons a year. The company is
committed to research and development to determi-
ne the ideal kaolin grade for each of its existing and
potential customers in Brazil.
Monte Pascoal currently has deposits of more than
30 million tons of kaolin, ensuring that it will be
producing and supplying customers with the mi-
neral for many years to come. “Consistent with our
ongoing commitment to research and development,
we continue to work on surveys of new deposits,
and we’re now working on the recognition of an
area that covers approximately 4,000 hectares,” says
director Roberto Rocha.
