The market in mineral fillers is
constantly improving, as sup-
pliers seek to diversify particle
sizes, especially by producing
finer and finer fillers with a
view to delivering improved
performance and productivity,
while enabling paint manufac-
turers to reduce costs.
The paint industry is the
leading consumer of mineral
fillers, and the consumption
of these raw materials grows
more and more each year. The
highlights are products with
ever-smaller particle sizes that
provide superior performan-
ce in a variety of applications
and increase competitiveness
in the marketplace, especially
in relation to imported mate-
rials. Also stressed are diffe-
rentiated, specific performan-
ce-enhancing products, such
as materials which provide
improved opacity, washability,
brightness, weathering resis-
tance and yields, including
TiO2 extenders, matting agents
and gloss promoters,
among others.
Mineral fillers are
being increasingly
used as performance-
enhancing agents, as
they no longer play
just a supporting role
to reduce formula-
tion costs. The search
for environmentally
friendlier solutions
is also on the rise in
this market.
