PAINT & PINTURA
“The Technology Board was group
that worked very hard so that we
could reach the high level of our
lectures and have a high-quality
congress,” he concludes.
Paint & Pintura TV
Paint & Pintura TV was also there
during the tree days of Latincoat
& Adhesives 2010. Journalist Re-
nata Flores conducted interviews
with the most prominent indivi-
duals in the paint and adhesive
industry, who talked about their
expectations concerning both the
show and the market. In addition,
exclusive interviews were given by
all lecturers at the show.

At the Latincoat & Adhesives
2010 closing ceremony, Agnelo
Editora put on a cocktail party
for the launch of two more events
that will take place in 2011: The
Paint & Pintura Paint Technology
Northeast and Mid-West Foru-
ms, which will be held in March
in Fortaleza, Ceará and April in
Goiânia, Goiás, respectively.

Thickeners - Critical to paint
performance
Thickeners additives used to
change rheological properties in
paints. Rheology control makes
the production process easier, im-
proves application properties and
prevents problems like settling.
Paints are subject to different
shear levels from storage to ap-
plication, and thickeners play the
role of imparting a rheology that
can appropriately respond to such
shear strains in order to keep up
homogeneity and assist applica-
tion, reducing splashing, while
delivering good leveling and great
transfer from the paint roller to
the wall.
The end application determines
the rheological profile desired
from a paint. Accordingly, unless
the formulation has its rheo-
logical behavior automatically
adjusted, adding a thickener is
indispensable for optimum vis-
cosity control. Thickeners have
become the primary solution for
achieving the rheological balance
required in the formulation of
paints and coatings, as a crucial
component for a consistent paint
formulation in that it controls
settling, enhances in-can appe-
arance and have spreading and
leveling properties, whether the
paint is applied by brush, spray
or roller.
Cognis Brazil’s sales manager
Fabrício Carvalho explains that
thickeners, also known as rheo-
logy agents, are very important
additives because they determine
the properties and behavior of
the liquid contents in a formula-
tion, and are responsible for the
desired paint performance and
stability, whether by preventing
settling or viscosity variances,
which tends to increase in the
