Sintirj celebrates 70 years
The Union of Paint, Varnish, Vegetable and Animal Oil Processing Industries in the Municipality of Rio
de Janeiro, known for short as Sintirj, threw a part on October 21 to celebrate its 70th anniversary. The
party took place at Clube Monte Líbano, in the district of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, in the city of Rio de
Janeiro.
Representatives of paint manufacturers based in that state, as well as suppliers of raw materials, inputs,
packaging and services, attended the function and enjoyed the music played by the Tabajara orchestra, a
tradition in Rio de Janeiro.
The union’s president Guil-
herme de Souza Pires took the
opportunity to announce the
new board of directors for the
2010-2012 period.
History
The trade union was created
by a meeting of pioneers in
the industry on October 23,
1940 in the city of Rio de Ja-
neiro, originally by the name
of Business Association of the
Paint and Varnish Industry.
After several name changes,
the entity gained its present
name in June 1955.
“Therefore, Sintirj is the law-
ful successor of the original
association and the official
union representing manufac-
turers of paints and varnishes
in Rio de Janeiro,” said Sin-
tirj’s president.
In 2005, Sintirj launched the
1st Rio de Janeiro Techni-
cal Symposium on Paints and
Varnishes, or Simpotec Rio, an
annual trade show for those
involved in the industry.
After 66 years of existence,
Sintirj purchased its principal
place of business, where it
can now receive its members
more comfortably.
