Interview - 25 years building a successful brand
Anjo, a manufacturer of printing inks and automotive,
furniture and protective coatings based in Criciúma,
Santa Catarina (Brazil), was established in April 1986
and is now celebrating 25 years of existence. The
company was originally named Colombo Indústria e
Comércio de Massas Plásticas, when it was only a small
operation in a leased warehouse and with an output of
2 tons of auto repair putty per month. In 1987, under
the brand Anjo, the company started to operate in the
backyard of its chief executive officer Beto Colombo, a
warehouse measuring 144 square meters, and hit 20
tons per month of auto repair putty.
Experiencing impressive growth, Anjo moves to new
facilities in 1993 and starts producing automotive
complements. One year later, Anjo’s auto repair putty
production exceeded 252 tons per month, and the
company began to produce paint thinners and solvents.
With a significant increase in production, Anjo once
again expanded its facilities and invests in equipment.
In April 1999, Anjo received its ISO 9001 certification,
and it 2000 the company broke into printing, providing
solvents, inks and some items tailored to each customer.
In 2002 Anjo opened a solvent-based decorative paint
plant, which is also located in Criciúma, SC.
April 2007 saw Anjo adhere to the concept of Business
Units and open a plant fully dedicated to its Print-
ing Business Unit. In the following year, the company
implemented the Retail Business Unit, which provides
customers with automotive, furniture and protective
coatings from three plants, one for automotive and
protective coatings, one for water-based decorative
paints, and one for solvent-based decorative paints.
