PAINT & PINTURA
Industry in the Spotlight - Chemical essence
Khemeia serves customers in the paint and coatings,
textile, leather, cleaning, hygiene and waste treat-
ment industry, and is soon to break into mining. For
the paint and coatings industry, the company em-
phasizes its line of urethane thickeners with excellent
properties when used in paint formulations, providing
greater hiding power, leveling during application, and
improved washability. “In Brazil today, Khemeia stands
out for being the first chemical company to produce
and market this kind of 100-percent urethane-based
rheology modifier and thickener. In addition, this
thickener is well-suited for a specific line of paints,
which we call premium paints, because it delivers
optimal finish properties upon application,” remarks
Mauro Meda, of Khemeia’s product development
group.
The company already has an expansion plan for its
plant where that line of urethane thickeners is pro-
duced, which is to be implemented this year in pursuit
of a larger industry scale. “The expansion works will
commence early in the second half of 2011. In fact, we
will try to expand not only the production area, but
also our sales team and the company’s entire struc-
ture, as we are feeling the need for more space at our
plant located in Criciúma, State of Santa Catarina,
and seeking to meet the production demands from our
customers. Upon completion of the expansion works,
our capacity will reach 1,500 tons per month,” says
Roberta Guedes, sales coordinator at Khemeia.
Besides that thickener, Khemeia also supplies custom-
ers with such additives as rheology modifiers, acrylic
thickeners, hybrid acrylic-urethane and straight
urethane modifiers, dispersants for both water- and
solvent-based systems, defoamers, wetting and co-
alescing agent, among others, always using cutting-
edge technology and aiming to meet the needs of
its customers. “We’ve recently developed an acrylic
dispersant that is still on trial, but is already showing
great results, including when compared to our existing
dispersants. In addition, the company will participate
in the Abrafati trade show for the first time by the
name of Khemeia, bringing along our entire product
range,” says Guedes.
