Sustainability on the rise
The commitment of all players in the paint industry to provide the best products or raw materials not only in
terms of quality and high performance, but also and most importantly as regards their compliance with envi-
ronmental and health-related requirements, becomes more and more visible with each passing year.
All of the articles brought to you readers in this issue of Paint & Pintura show how the market in general has
been contributing to this world trend, allowing you to identify and evaluate the best environment-friendly
raw materials. For example, in the reports on mineral fillers and biocides contained in this issue, this “greener”
attitude is demonstrated by the products that the suppliers concerned have been offering.
The article on mineral fillers shows that products featuring superior performance and a sustainable appeal are
the paint industry’s main requirement, which entails strict control of both compliance with specifications and
heavy metal contents. On biocides, our report shows that the products now available from suppliers have a mi-
nimum environmental impact, with low toxicity and high efficiency levels. They demonstrate that the market
has consistently evolved in the context of sustainability, showing a much deeper commitment to ensure the
preservation of the environment and human health.
Also in this issue, Dow Coating Materials’ new Director for the South Region Marcelo Junho tells exclusively to
our magazine what his goals and efforts will be in his new position, and also what are some of the company’s
new developments for the paint and coatings industry. And speaking of the “age of sustainability”, Junho also
says that Dow has globally announced its commitment to put all of its operations through a massive adjust-
ment program aimed at a more sustainable world by 2015.
Check out a case on printing inks with Sun Chemical, which provides an environmentally friendly paint for the
AcquaKids line. The Coatset mineral oil-based paint has been replaced with Sun Chemical’s Exact, a paint for-
mulated with soybean oil. The Exact paint is produced by a low-environmental impact process, free of mineral
oils and formulated with plant oils, resulting very low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) contents.
In addition to the foregoing pieces, our magazine brings you much more information on manufacturers and
products that are in line with the “Age of Sustainability”.
Enjoy!
