PAINT & PINTURA
the right defoamer for paints:
guidelines and case studies”; and
“Advances in waterborne two-
component epoxy systems”.
AkzoNobel
Iguato and AkzoNobel Resinas will
be together at Abrafati exhibiting
their products and demonstrating
how they are present in all im-
provements in commercial paints.
“We invite all our customers to
meet resins with a sustainability
appeal from Iguatu, which release
much less solvent into the atmos-
phere, while imparting flexibility
to their paint formulations. We’ll
be showing high-solids phenolic,
medium- and long-oil alkyd re-
sins, polyester resins for industrial
and automotive coatings, and
our full range of resins for special
formulations, such as heat-resis-
tant coatings and thermoplastic
finishes, and an exclusive line of
hydroxylated acrylic resins,” says
Elaine Guedes, Business Manager
at Iguatu.
AkzoNobel Resinas will introdu-
ce the new SB 8758 vinyl acrylic
copolymer, which brings into the
decorative paint market a new
concept of aqueous dispersion
for the various types of formula-
tions that are currently based on
styrene acrylic copolymers. “While
designed to provide the same rhe-
ology and reactivity properties as
the acrylic thickeners that are for-
mulated with those standard co-
polymers, this products adds great
versatility, excellent yield and le-
veling, and is also well-suited for
general applications, particularly
in economy and standard paints,
mortars and complements,” Elaine
points out.

Altmann
During Abrafati 2011, Altmann
will be demonstrating its newly
launched Mastersizer 3000 laser
particle size analyzer, from its
represented company Malvern.
“Easily configured to meet indi-
vidual application requirements,
it generates robust, reproduci-
ble particle sizing data with the
minimum of fuss. A new optical
core concentrates the best ever
Mastersizer performance into
minimum bench space and brings
precise resolution across a very
wide size range, for wet and dry
samples. Novel dispersion acces-
sories ensure optimal sample pre-
paration, for every material type.
Also to be on display at our booth
is X-Rite’s MA98 multi-angle mea-
surement tool is designed for con-
sistent, precise color measurement
of metallic, pearlescent, and other
complex special effect finishes.
The unit provides 10 measurement
angles and 2 illumination angles
to create a unique master profile
of each color that serves as a ben-
chmark for optimizing color com-
munication from initial design,
through formulation, processing,
and quality assurance. The device
is xDNA™ driven, which means it
is bundled with X-Rite’s exclusi-
ve X-Color QC measurement and
analysis software,” says Juliana
Franciscon, marketing and sales
assistant at Altmann.
The company is also going to
showcase the QUV accelerated
weathering tester, from Q-Lab,
which can reproduce in only a few
days or weeks damage that may
occur over months or even years
outdoors. “It can simulate the
effects of sunlight with ultravio-
let fluorescent lamps, as well as
dew and rain using condensation
and/or water spray. We are also
going to exhibit our zeta potential
analyzer, light booths, laboratory
