The resolution was put forward
by a group led by the Brazilian
Association of Paint Manufactu-
rers, known for short as Abrafati,
and applies to a 95,000-ton quota,
to be allocated according to the
requirements to be determined
by the complementary rule issued
by the Office of the Foreign Trade
Secretary (Secex).
The titanium dioxide import tax
cut brings about more favorable
conditions for importing a pig-
ment of great importance to the
paint industry which is not do-
mestically produced in sufficient
amounts to meet the country ’s de-
mand. In addition, the resolution
reduces production costs, making
the paint industry more competi-
tive and ensuring more affordable
consumer prices.
In addition to this particular
governmental action, producers
of titanium dioxide, which consi-
dered the most important white
pigment in the paint industry,
also push for new measures to
further improve the quality of the
industry ’s products and ensure
more competitive costs.
