All major manufacturers of decorative paints and automotive refin-
ish coatings will be participating in Feitintas 2012, as well suppli-
ers of complementary products, tools and application equipment. In
addition, a key new feature for this year, which will contribute to the
expansion, is a simultaneously-held high-end symposium comprising
lectures by national and international experts especially directed at
paint specifiers and users.
With the strengthening and new configuration of the trade show, the
heads of the entities involved believe that Feitintas will represent yet
another significant stimulus to development and innovation in the
paint industry.

Paint & Pintura to Honor the Best of the Year
The most awaited evening of the year is approaching with very special
brilliance. Agnelo Editora is honored to present 38 suppliers to the
industry, five personalities and seven paint companies arranged into
50 categories with its Paint & Pintura Awards, so that they can bring
“home” the “Oscar” of the paint industry.
Already a tradition in the paint industry, the Paint & Pintura Award
presentation ceremony held by Agnelo Editora is once again honoring
the winners revealed by the 16th Paint & Pintura Survey of Suppliers
to the Paint Industry. The awards will be presented to the winners in
38 suppliers categories, including “Master Top-10” and “Advertisement
of the Year”, plus five “Personality of the Year” categories, for which,
as in every previous edition, there were two rounds of vote, and seven
categories for the “Best Paint Companies” in Brazil.
The 16th edition of the survey, conducted from January 3 until April
11, 2012, had a record number of respondents, encompassing 119
paint companies and around 1,500 employees of 200 suppliers to the
industry at both of its stages. An interesting fact is that there was a
considerable increase in the number of respondents from the regions
where Agnelo Editora held its Paint & Pintura Coatings Technology
and Management Forums, especially the Brazilian Northeast and
Midwest.
The awards will be presented over dinner, which will take place on
May 4 at Espaço Vila dos Ipês, in São Paulo, with the Bandeirantes
television network’s journalists and hosts Nivaldo Prieto and Érica
Reis as masters of ceremony.
The 16th Paint & Pintura Survey was audited by Premium Auditores
Independentes, the firm responsible for the entire process of compiling
and measuring the data and disclosing the results. Complete informa-
tion on the winners and winning criteria, participating company data
by size and by region and the full version of the survey are provided at
the end of the article, in Portuguese.
Silicas - Multi-Functionality for Paints and Coatings
As high-purity materials, silicas impart outstanding properties to all
kinds of paints and coatings.
Silicas play several roles in paint formula-
tions, such as modifying rheology, promo-
ting thixotropy, improving paint adhesion
to primers or basecoats, adding a pleasant
touch to the finish, preventing sagging in
vertical applications, and enhancing scra-
tch and corrosion-resistance, while acting
as gloss and reflection agents, moisture
absorbers, flow promoters, anti-settling
agents and high-quality matting agents,
among other functions.
In powder coatings, their primary roles
are as flow promoters and stabilizers,
extending the durability of the products
in which they are used. Despite the low
rate at which they are added to paint and
coatings formulations, silicas account for
key properties of those products.
