In the second quarter of last year, Sintirj’s board suffered
a severe blow with the death of its chairman and presi-
dent Guilherme de Souza Pires, a competent, charismatic
man who led the entity for many years. Dr. Guilherme, as
he was known, was very popular among members, which
made his replacement a major challenge. The mission was
assigned to AFE Tintas’ manufacturing director Alexandre
Brito, who took over the chair at the entity and has been
working in accordance with the guidelines set by the Pires,
which, since there was not enough time under Pires, are
only now emerging from the paper and materializing.
“Our idea is to always bring in more members. We are
aware that there are several newcomers in the market,
while other businesses need support to stabilize, market in-
formation and contacts with suppliers that can meet their
requirements. The redesigning of our website, for example,
is meant to open the first door to the entity so that pro-
spective members may learn what Sintirj can do for them,”
Brito remarks.
Sintirj’s new president and chairman points out that the
state of Rio de Janeiro needs to be well represented in
terms of qualification and innovation and sustains that
events like the Paint & Pintura Coatings Technology and
Management Forum should be held in the country’s various
regions. “The formula used by Agnelo Editora for setting
up its forums is the ideal one. We can no longer see point
of congresses for which companies have to send their
technical long distances away. Bringing suppliers close to
manufacturers is both an interesting and expediting idea,
and this event is well on track to keep happening for many
years. We look forward to seeing these events work out, as
they mean stand for innovation and knowledge within the
reach of manufacturers,” Brito ponders.
In the full version of this interview, available in Portuguese
only, Sintirj’s president also talks about the entity’s rede-
signed website, the opening of the new headquarters and
the resulting benefits to its membership.

officer Agnelo de Barros Neto stressed the importance of
the regional forums that his publishing company has been
putting together since last year. “The Northeast region has
been growing faster than Brazil’s other regions. Businesses
have been showing two-figure growth rates, and some
have even exceeded 20 percent, which is very important
