of Brazil’s decorative paint market, or 51 percent. Paint shops are still the primary
distribution channel, and standard paints are the fastest-growing segment due to
the improvement in the living standards of the least well-off,” Fiani remarked. Hence
the importance of consumer profile data. “Currently, end consumers are the leading
buyers, accounting for 68 percent of all paints sold, followed by professional pain-
ters, with 18 percent, construction companies and contractors, with 11 percent, and
architects, engineers and decorators, with 3 percent. But painters are the opinion
leaders when it comes to the choice of a paint brand, followed by over-the-counter
salespersons.
The final lecture at the Paint & Pintura Forum was entitled “Sustainability in the
Paint Industry,” delivered by Renata Mariano Tamdjian, a biologist with a specialist
degree in Environmental Technologies from São Paulo’s technology college Fatec,
Environment, Records and Occupational Safety supervisor at Montana Química,
member of Abrafati’s Environment, Health and Safety Commission and deputy direc-
tor of Regulatory Affairs at ABPM. Her lecture covered management programs and
environment and sustainability concepts in the paint industry.
In addition to those pertaining to market and environmental issues, the event
comprised 13 other lectures provided by suppliers to the paint industry: Bandeirante
Brazmo, Cabot, D’Altomare, Evonik, Imerys Itatex, Lonza, Makeni, Miracema-Nuodex,
Oxiteno, Polystell, quantiQ, Sibelco, and Wana Química.
The event was closed by a draw for a tablet among attendees from paint companies
won by Priscilla Cunha Martins, of Industrial Tintas Fama— and a cocktail party.
