we still haven’t started to invest inside the
plant to increase our capacity, which we
expect to do in the second half of this year.
We’ve only invested in construction, that
is, we have built up a new facility that will
be initially used as a warehouse. We have
also expanded our management offices,
and our new investment plans contem-
plate a cafeteria, a recreation area for our
employees, a locker room, etc. In terms of
area, we’re going to grow by at least 20
percent in relation to our existing capac-
ity,” says Macedo, adding that the site cur-
rently covers a total area of 20,000 square
meters, with a built-up area of 7,500
square meters and capacity of 130 tons per
month for dispersions alone.
Investments - Farben to Invest
R$50 Million in New Plant
As a result of the investment, which is part of its strategic planning, the
company expects its output to increase to 6 million liters per month.
Paint and varnish manufacturer Farben, headquartered in Içara, south-
ern Santa Catarina, will start to build its new plant in the second half of
2013. With investments in excess of R$50 million, the new paint plant will
double the company’s capacity.
The new plant will be built in Içara, in an area adjacent to the company’s
head office. There, Farben will produce paints, varnishes and thinners for
customers in the furniture, auto refinish, manufacturing and construc-
tion markets. The company currently produces around 3 million liters of
paint per month. According to Farben’s technical sales manager Ilmar
Broch, the investment contemplated by its strategic plans will enable the
company to increase its production to 6 million liters per month by 2022.
Exports
The new plant will also contribute to consolidating the Farben brand in
the South American, Central American and Mexican markets, which cur-
rently account for 3 to 5 percent of the company’s turnover. “Our target
for the next 10 years is to increase the share of exports in our revenues to
as much as 20 percent. To achieve that rate, our plans include the imple-
mentation of dealerships in those countries to which most of our exports
are shipped,” Broch remarks. The company’s internationalization plans
also consider building up plants in foreign countries.
Events - Wacker Opens Technical Center in Brazil
Wacker Chemie AG opened the expansion of its technical center and
training center in Jandira, near the city of São Paulo, on April 11. The
activities concentrated in the regional technical center for South America
comprise research and development, application technology, training and
continued education in silicone and polymer applications.
The expansion is focused on technical laboratories for polymeric binders,
especially those used in construction chemicals. The Wacker ACADEMY
training center, which has been expanded as well and gained a training
room, provides an optimum industry-specific networking platform in-
volving customers, distributors and Wacker experts. With the expansion,
the technical center in Brazil enhances the company’s local capabilities
in terms of application technology, know-how transfer and services, con-
tributing to the supply of high-quality silicone and polymer products to
emerging markets in South America.
The reason for the expansion is the rapid growth of the regional market,
particularly for complex construction, paint and coatings applications.
With the expansion, Wacker intends to further strengthen its market and
technology leadership as a supplier of quality chemical raw materials. The
company has been investing continuously in its Brazilian technical center
in order to expand and improve its research and development capabilities,
