Medrano also talked about the importance of the Ebdquim
conferenceandsaidthatinJanuary2015Associquimisgoingto
startorganizingthenextedition,whichwill takeplace in2016.

SãoPaulo. It isaconferencethatbringstogethermembersof
theentiresupplychain,aswellaslecturersfromabroad,where

Chemical IndustryHadMorethanUS$ 156Billion
inRevenuesfor2014
TheBrazilianChemical Industry’sAssociation,knownforshort
inPortuguese as Abiquim, announced the results of Brazil’s
chemical industryduring the 19thENAIQ (Chemical Industry’s
AnnualMeeting), heldatHotelGrandHyatt, inSãoPaulo, on
December5.
TheBrazilianchemical industryclosed theyearwithnet reve-
nuesofUS$156.7billion,asestimatedbyAbiquimandspecific
associationsforthefollowingsegments:chemicalsforindustrial
use;pharmaceuticals; fertilizers;personal care,perfumesand
cosmetics; cropprotectionproducts; soaps anddetergents;
coatings,enamelsandvarnishes;artificialandsyntheticfibers;
andothers.Theestimatednetrevenuesfortheyearmakethe
Brazilianchemicalindustrythesixthlargestintheworld.Itisthus
estimatedthatchemicals represented9.67percentofBrazil’s
entiremanufacturingsector.
If the result isconfirmed, theBrazilianchemical industry’snet
revenues for 2014will havebeen0.3percenthigher than the
previous year’sUS$ 156.2 billion. Chemicals for industrial use
arestillhighlightofthe foregoingmarketsegments,withUS$
69.7billion inrevenuesatthecloseof2014.Theyear-endtrade
balancedeficitforchemicals isestimatedatUS$31.6billion,as
Brazil had chemical imports ofUS$ 46billion andexports of
US$14.4billion.
AbrafatiHoldsYear-EndDinner
December 10 sawAbrafati (short inPortuguese for Brazilian
AssociationofPaintManufacturers)hold itsannualyear-enddinner
forthepaint industryatClubeAtléticoMonteLíbano, inSãoPaulo.
In his opening speech, Antonio Carlos Lacerda, chairman of the
AbrafatiManagementBoard,commentedontheyear2014.“Thishas
beenatoughyear.OurcostsandtheUSdollarcontinuetorise,and
theeconomicenvironment isobviouslynot favorable.Eachdaywe
have to face thechallengeof furtheringproductivityandefficiency
sothatouroperationswillbemoreprofitable.Theyear2015willbe
differentthantheothersbecauseweneedchangestotheeconomy.
Ibelievethat impact isnotcoming in2015,but in2016,andfromthen
onwehavetoworkhardforamoresustainablemarket.”
Lacerdaalsoannouncedhis forecasts for themainsegments in the
paintmarket.“For2015,weexpecttoseemodestgrowth involume
in thedecorativepaint segment, andgrowth in valueof around 1
percent, as rawmaterialswill becomemore expensive and there
willbepriceadjustments.Other factors include themigration from
economytostandardpaints,andthestrengtheningofthestandard,
premiumandevensuperpremiumpaintsegments.Themarket for
automotive refinish coatingswill keepongrowing and seemajor
technological changes.Weestimate that thismarketwill gain4 to
5percent involumeandaround8percent invalue. Themarket for
industrialcoatings,foritspart,isamoredifficultandveryfragmented,
andwedon’texpect themanufacturing sector to resumegrowth.
Theautomotivemarketsawproductionfall 15to16percent in2014.
For 2015,weexpect a slight improvement inproductionand sales,
andnewplantsareabouttostartup,whichwillreflect inthefigures,
withexpectedgrowthof2to3percent.”
Thereupon, Abrafati’s executivepresidentDilson Ferreira thanked
allattendeesfortheirpresenceandstressedtheentity’sinstitutional
programs.“While2014hasbeenahardyear,we’vecarriedonwith
ourplansandprojects, but thedifficultiesarebeingovercomeand
the institutional resultshavebeenverypositive.Asforthe Industry-
-SpecificQualityProgram forDecorativePaints, notonly is itfirmly
established, itcontinuesexpandingwithquality. Todaywehave28
companiescertifiedunderthisprogram,andanother10paintmanu-
facturershavecommittedtosupplythismarketandconsumerswith
qualityproductsincompliancewiththestandard.Alsocontributingto
thisistheproducttaxrelief,thesocialsecuritytaxrelief,andincentives
to thedevelopmentandexpansionofourprograms.”TheAbrafati
ProfessionalPainterProgram,theNationalSolidWastePolicy,activi-
tiesinthefieldoftechnologyandAbrafati2015werealsopointedout.
In the sameevening,Abrafati honoredAldoGandolfi Junior as the
“AbrafatiPersonality2014.”Gandolfistartedhiscareerintheindustry
back in 1964atOsmosePentoxdoBrasil,whichwas later renamed
MontanaQuímica,whereheworkedfor47years.
