sist of a panel on innovation and sustainability in coatings to
be conducted by three international guests: AndrewDoyle,
presidentoftheAmericanCoatingsAssociation;KeithWatson,
globaldirectoratTheDowChemicalCompany; andProf. Jamil
Baghdachi,headoftheEasternMichiganUniversity’sCoatings
Research Institute. The last day’s Plenary Sessionwill be con-

Thewonderful city has received the Paint &Pintura Coatings
TechnologyandManagementForumfortheSoutheastRegion
for thefirst time,which tookplaceonSeptember 03andhad

editionoftheforumwasheld
at Centro de Convenções Nova América, in Del Castilho, and
was backedby Sintirj (short inPortuguese for Unionof Paint
Manufacturers intheCityofRiodeJaneiro),withwhichAgnelo
Editorahashada longstandingpartnership.
The forumwasopenedby the lecture“WhatGHS IsAndHow
It Impacts Brazilian Industrial Businesses,” delivered by Prof.
FabricianoPinheiro, technical director at Intertox, biomedical
researcher at IB-Unesp/Botucatu, master of Toxicology and
Toxicological Analysis at FCF/USP, coordinator of the Study
Commission(CE-10:101.05)oftheBrazilianChemistryCommittee
(CB-10/ABNT),coordinatoroftheToxicologicalSciencesgradu-
atecourse,andprofessorofToxicologyatFaculdadesOswaldo
Cruz,SãoPaulo.The lectureaddressedtheGHS(GloballyHarmo-
nizedSystemofClassificationandLabelingofChemicals),
whichhasbeenestablishedandpublishedby theUnited
Nations (UN). In Brazil, the GHS has been incorporated
into Regulatory Standard 26 (NR 26), of theMinistry of
Labor and Employment, andNBR 14725, of theBrazilian
Association for Technical Standards (ABNT). Based on
legal requirements and considering the effectiveness of
theGHS inBrazil, the lecture discussed the impacts and
necessary adjustments that the system is going tobring
into theBrazilian industry.
Amongthetechnical lecturespresentedattheforum,the
onedeliveredbyAdrianaAlmeida, applicationsupervisor
at Allnex for LatinAmerica,was entitled“Innovations in
Eco-Friendly,High-YieldSystemsfortheCoatingsMarket.”
Thatwasfollowedbythe lectures“PerformanceSolvents
andSurfactantsforDecorative,AutomotiveandIndustrial
Coatings,”byFabioRosa,Oxiteno’sresearcherspecializing
in coatings, who introduced the company’s solvent and
surfactantportfolioandthe influenceoftheseproductson
thefilmformationmechanism,stabilizationandsolubility
in formulations of decorative, automotive and industrial
coatings.
“PerformanceAdditives and Chemicals”was the theme
forthe lecturepresentedbyUnivarBrazil’smarketexpert
FernandoGuirauParra,whodemonstrated thesynergies
betweentheproductsmakingupthecompany’sportfolio,
which are supplied across the coatings supply chain and
delivertocustomersmoreeffectivesolutionsthatenhance
the technical performance of coatings formulations, as
well asmarketingsolutions.
The last lectureforthemorning,entitled“High-SolidsAlkyd
Resins,”was presented by Alex Areas, technical service
coordinator,NewResinsBusiness, at Iguatu-AkzoNobel.
Afterthe lunchbreak,MASTGroupsalesexecutiveSérgio
Marigonda resumed the presentations with the lecture
“FundamentalsofAcceleratedWeathering,”whichdiscus-
sednewcombinedcorrosionandweathering, prohesion
+UVandcontrolled relativehumiditycorrosion testsand
validations.
Thereupon,“SustainableSolutionsandInnovativeProces-
sesfor IndustrialCoatings”wasthethemeforthe lecture
deliveredbyMauroCassaniga, businessmanageratRen-
tankEmbalagens,acompanywhichprovidesproductsand
completesolutions that reduceenvironmental impacts.
Next came Priscila Godoy, technical service representa-
tive at Chemours Co. Indústria e Comércio de Produtos
