GOOD NEWS PUSH THE INDUSTRY FORWARD May has become the most awaited month of the year for the paint and coatings industry. It’s in this May issue that we announce the winners of the Paint & Pintura Awards in 53 ca- tegories, and it’s also this month, more precisely on the 18th, that Espaço Vila dos Ipês, in São Paulo, is going to host the ceremony where trophies will be presented to those suppliers of rawmaterials, paint companies and professional individuals who stood out in the marketplace over the course of last year. The winners of the “Oscars” of the paint and coatings industry will be called on stage to be honored in front of an expected audience of people representing companies spanning the entire coatings supply chain, as well as the industry’s leading associations. To determine who the win- ners were, Agnelo Editora conducted the Paint & Pintura Suppliers Survey, commencing on November 6, 2017 and ending on April 15, 2018. The voteswere cast via themagazine’s Internet portal at www. paintshow.com.br . The criteria for the questionnaire answered by paint manufacturers were specification, partnership, lead times, pricing, services, and volume, and respondents were asked to nominate up to five companies for each category. For the Paint Company of the Year category, though, which is divided into eight segments, a different methodology was used, as the questions were directed at representatives of suppliers to the industry. The criteria by which these made their choices were emphasis on quality, investment in rese- arch and development, products launched, respect for the environment, and social responsibility. And those who won in the Personality of the Year category were also determined by representatives of suppliers, but after two rounds of vote, so as to add further relevance to the results. This year’s survey was answered by 129 paint companies, represen- ting 80 percent of the industry in the Brazilian market. It was also answered by 1,085 business people from 168 suppliers to the indus- try, who chose the winners upon two rounds of vote. This whole mobilization in the industry towards contributing to our polling by actually voting in a serious and very responsiblemanner is one of the main reasons for the recognition that our award has come to enjoy, being regarded as the “Oscar” of the paint and coatings industry. So it is our great pleasure to announce in this issue the winners of the 22nd Paint & Pintura Awards, as well as all of the companies and professionals that were named in the survey, which reflects the recognition they have earned within the industry. Check out our article on the awards for the percentages achieved by each company and business person in all 39 categories for suppliers, eight for paint companies, and six for Personality of the Year. And on with the good news, Brazil’s positive economic growth forecast for 2018 has just been moved a bit further up by the IMF (International Monetary Fund). By the organization’s new estima- tes, the country’s GDP is set to grow 2.3 percent in 2018, whereas the forecast from earlier this year, in January, was 1.9 percent. This upward review is primarily due to investments beingmade at amore rapid pace. However, our country remains on alert on account of looming political uncertainties. Now, it is our duty as citizens to do something about those come the time to choose who to vote for in the next elections. Let’s all do our homework and make our vote count. This will certainly make all the difference. According to Souza, Iquine’s growth strategy involves providing quality products and democratizing the use of color through a bold programof basically having colored paints priced at the same level as white ones, which has also set Iquine a target of having a thousand tinting machines installed by 2020. “We are working alongside the tinting equipment makers Corob and Fluid, which provide the two systems that are approved by our company, in order to reach that number, thanks to this expansion and color democratizationprogram that we have in place. This action has boosted this business segment with our company in quite a relevant way, while increasing the participation of our point-of-sale partners in the process,” he says. Innovation, too, is an integral part of Iquine’s philosophy and expan- sion strategy. “Last year we introduced the first single-coat product in the Brazilian marketplace. This year we’re launching Dialine, which is fit for application of any type of substrate, from metal to wood to masonry to aluminum to galvanized surfaces. All of these
