With the introduction of novel resin, coalescing agent and alkalinizing agent technologies, associative thickeners play a key role in the performance of paints and coatin- gs, in that they improve paint applicability and transfer from the roller to the wall, while eliminating spattering, delivering an outstanding final look with great leveling performance, and ensuring stability in such formulations, which helps to achieve the quality level required by the Industry-specific Quality Program (PSQ) run by ABRAFATI (short in Portuguese for Brazilian CoatingsManufacturers Association). “To that end, environmentally compliant, high-performance additives are essential to formulating high-quality paints and coatings, besides being required for sustainable growth in the marketplace,” says BYK technical advisor Mauricio Cunha.
