CLIPPING PAINT&PINTURA | Dezembro 2018 | 9 EVENTS - SOLVAY CELEBRATES 60 YEARS PRODUCING SOLVENTS November 7 saw Solvay hold an event at Casa Charlô, in São Paulo, where they announced the opening of the Augeo plant and their investment of BRL 150million in oxygenated solvents in Brazil. The newmanufacturing facilities are exclusively dedi- cated to producing oxygenated solvents from the Augeo line, which come from renewable sources. Focused on sustainability and high performance, products from the Augeo family are composed of versatilemolecules fe- aturing high solvent power and lowodor. The Augeo solvents are especially used in markets for consumer goods, notably in household cleaning chemicals, such as surface cleaners and air fresheners. Another important market segment is factory and office cleaning products. Augeo products have also been successfully used in the agri- business and the oil and gas industries, having a significant market share in the United States. And, of course, the Augeo line is also present in the paint and coatings industry. Built in Solvay’s Paulínia industrial complex in São Paulo, Brazil, and modeled around the Industry 4.0 concept, the new plant will enable the company to double its supply of Augeo sustai- nable solvents tomeet thedemand fromcustomers indifferent industry segments spread over several parts of the world. The factory has been up and running in full swing from the outset, thanks especially to the strong foreign demand for sustainable products. So much so that Solvay has already ap- proved a new expansion of this same plant, whichwill expand its Augeo production capacity to nearly 20,000metric tons per year by the end of 2019. “The new Augeo plant demonstrates our commitment to ‘green’ chemistry, which provides our customers with the sustainable solutions that they require in order to develop products that are increasingly friendlier to both people and the environment, says Daniela Manique, president of the Coatis Global Business Unit, as well as president of the Solvay Group in Latin America. SITIVESP HONORS WINNERS OF SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR AWARDS During its traditional year-end party held onNovember 22 at the FIESP (São Paulo State Industry Federation) events venue, in São Paulo, Sitivesp (short in Portuguese for Union of São Paulo State Paint and Coating Manufactu- rers) presented its coveted Supplier of the Year Awards. In his opening speech, the entity’s president Narciso Moreira Preto thanked all for their presence and unders- cored the 30 years of existence of the awards, celebrating the partnership among Sitivesp, the manufacturers in the industry and their suppliers. To commemorate the milestone, plastic artist Glenn Hamilton’s trophy design started in two parts that drew parallel lines from the base, symbolizing a manufacturer and a supplier and suggesting a shared path of evolution, which transform into the numbers three and zero. Thewinners were BYK, in the Additives category, Imerys, for Mineral and Synthetic Fillers, Brasilata, for Packaging Materials, Transcor, for Pigments, Reichhold, in the Solvent-Based Resins category, Arkema Coatex and Oswaldo Cruz Química, forWater-Based Resins, Braskem, for Solvents, and, last but not least, Bandeirante Brazmo, in the Chemical Distribution category. Closing the ceremony, Sitivesp president NarcisoMoreira Preto honored entrepreneurWaldemar Lazzuri for his 60 years of engagement in the industry, whose distinguished career path included time served on the Sitivesp board.
