THE AWARD Given the huge relevance that the paint and coatings industry has earned over the past few decades in Brazil’s North and Northe- ast regions, as well as the number of manufacturing companies doing business and standing out regionally in the industry, Ag- nelo Editora recognized that dynamism and introduced last year the Paint & Pintura Regional Awards, North & Northeast, which honors the companies and professionals who contributed most to the local market. The event is a regional version of the Paint & Pintura Awards, acknowledged as the “Oscar” of the paint and coatings industry, which was created by Agnelo Editora to honor the companies supplying the industry with raw materials, as well as the profes- sionals who stood out from the pack during the year for their efforts in furtherance of sustainable development in the sector, not to mention the best paint companies. PhaseoneofthesurveycommencedinNovember12,2018andended on December 20, 2018. To determine the winners in the Personality of the Year categories, phase two of the survey was conducted, allowing respondents to vote until January 18, earlier this year. MARKET CONSOLIDATION The Northeast is one of Brazil’s most promising regions in terms of economic growth, and it also has one of the country’s largest concentrations of paint companies, including both large multi- national players and sizable regional business groups, as well as mid-sized and small businesses. In the state capital of Recife, for example, major manufacturers are concentrated, including both multinational and regional groups. Major players have operations in other Northeastern sta- tes, too, such as Ceará, Bahia, Rio Grande doNorte, Paraíba, Pará, andMaranhão. As the coatings industry grew in the region, some key suppliers expanded their local operations, while others have even set up factories and logistics infrastructure to supply the current demand. INORGANIC CHEMICALS - TECHNOLOGIES FEATURING NEW COLORS AND IMPROVED PERFORMANCE The global market for pigments is clearly going through a restruc- turing and consolidation process, as has the paint and coatings industry around the globe. The challenge facing all paint compa- nies and their pigment suppliers is essentially the same: todevelop products that add value to both their business and customers, but also and especially to produce them with a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility. “The accelerated roll-out of environmental policies has generally caused many manufacturers to either operate at reduced capacities or even close down, and we expect that to bring about positive changes in the pigment industryworldwide. At Lanxess, wherever we have operations, we hold ourselves to global sustainability standards in our chromium and iron oxide pigment production processes,
