EVENTS - 45TH EDITION WRAPS UP EVENTS CALENDAR WITH GREAT TURNOUT The 45th Paint & Pintura Coatings Tech- nology and Management Forum in the Southeast Region, which took place on November 6 at Hotel JP, in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, featured a diverse program, including lectures on technical and management-related issues and a penal with coatings industry leaders. The opening lecture was titled “Coa- tings industry Towards Real Value Cre- ation,” with Francisco Rácz, founding partner at Rácz, Yamaga & Associates (RY), who kicked off the event addres- sing the trends of the paint and coatings industry’s various segments, the compe- titive scenario and the evolution in real value added and profitability. Next came Wacker Química with its lec- ture titled “Silicone Resins andAdditives for Performance Decorative Coatings,” delivered by its own technical manager Pedro Marani, who showcased the company’s product range for decorative paints. After a coffee break, a panel was held with paint and coatings industry lea- ders, who addressed the theme “Ma- nagement Macro-Trends for the Next Decade: New Pathways of the Industry, was held.” The panel included Tintas Maza sales officer Anderson Maziero, Autoluks general business officer Bruno Potomati and Sherwin-Williams Brazil regional salesmanagerMarcelo Amaral, with Agnelo Editora editor-in-chief Mar- cos Mila serving as moderator. Up next, Nitemar Vieira, technical mana- ger for LatAm at Lanxess, delivered the lecture “Lanxess Inorganic Pigments: Quality and Sustainability.” For the last lecture in the morning pe- riod, MCassab brought Elementis Spe- cialities senior manager of applications for Latin America Carlos Ramiro, who delivered a presentation on rheology with a very differing approach, using a problem-solving tool for typical issues in decorative coating formulations. Starting the afternoon proceedings, Adexim-Comeximpresented the lecture titled “Anticorrosive Systems andOther Product Lines,” featuring technical sales manager Lilian Furlan. It was follows by quantiQ, who brought Eastman’s Latin America market de- velopment manager Marcos Basso to present the lecture “Solving the Puzzle in Low-Odor, VOC-Free Additives for Decorative Coatings.” Up next, Murilo Amaral, Bomix executi- vemanager at the SãoPauloBranch, and Sergio Weiss, sustainability manager at Bomix, presented the lecture “Develo- pment and Challenges in the Packaging Market.” Thereupon, BASF came along with the lecture titled “Impact Review of Additi- ves in Compound and Textured Coating Formulations & Value-Added Decora- tive Coating Formulation Solutions,” delivered by Marlon Braidott, technical consultant on additives. The forum wrapped up with a lecture by ABRAFATI titled “The Impacts of Changes to Decorative Paint Standar- ds,” presented by William Saraiva, coordinator of the Brazilian Coatings Committee (CB-164). WETTING AND DISPERSING AGENTS - PAINT QUALITY-BOOSTING ADDITIVES As customers in the paint and coatin- gs industry become more and more demanding, suppliers of wetting and dispersing agents continue developing products featuring high yields and per- formance that provide great value for money by serving multiple purposes and keeping up to global environmen- tal trends. The industry displays large consumption of dispersing and wetting agents in the Brazilian market because they are indispensable ingredients in paint formulations for imparting a varie- ty of necessary and desirable properties. The importance of dispersing agents in paint and coating formulations lies in the numerous benefits they provide.
