a washability device and brushes
(ABNT NBR 15078 and 15079 stan-
dards), and a washability tester
(wet abrasion with two tracks)
with a feeding pump, compliant
with the ASTM 2486 standard,
among others.
Transcor
Transcor will participate in Abra-
fati 2009 as sponsor and will bring
along at its stand the companies
that it represents, namely, Ningbo
Hongda and Wuxi-Jiangsu Multico-
lor, based in China; Choksi Pigments
and The Metal Powder Company
Limited (MEPCO), based in India;
and Spanish-based Nubiola. As ex-
clusive sales representative of these
companies in the Brazilian market,
Transcor’s portfolio include organic
pigments, colorants, ultramarine
blue pigments, and iron oxide pig-
ments.
During the trade show, Transcor
will introduce its new Transilver
and Transgold lines of metallic
pigments, consisting of aluminum
and purpurin pastes for industrial,
automotive and protective coatings,
as well as printing inks. These new
additions to Transcor’s product ran-
ge stem from its partnership with
MEPCO, a global producer of such
pigments.
Organic pigments specifically desig-
ned to replace inorganic pigments
containing heavy metals will also
be an important theme for this
edition of the trade show. Transcor’s
products are marked in power or
dispersion forms, which demonstra-
te the environment-friendliness of
what customers get.
It is worth pointing out that Trans-
cor and Nubiola will jointly provide
a technical lecture on new kinds of
corrosion inhibitors with low envi-
ronmental impact for anticorrosive
coatings, which will be delivered by
US expert Steve Hodges.
Troy
Providing customers with a range
of biocides and specialty additives,
Troy will participate in Abrafati
2009 stressing its line of low-VOC
and zero-VOC additives and bioci-
des.
Among its biocides, the company
will highlight the Mergal 711 K
6 bactericide, which is directed
at manufacturers of paints and
slurry pigments, the Polyphase 678
zero-VOC, APEO-free fungicide,
and the Polyphase 663 biocide,
which provides fungicidal and al-
gaecidal action, with very low VOC
and free of APEO. Both Polyphase
678 (fungicide) and Polyphase 663
(fungicide and algaecide) are in
the form of aqueous dispersion,
following the constant trend in
the paint industry towards redu-
ced VOC emissions.
As for additives, the focus will be
on the following items: Troysoal
LAC and ZLAC, highly efficient
wetting agents for waterborne for-
mulations. Both of them represent
an excellent tool for formulators
to balance their low- or zero-VOC
paints due to the elimination of
traditional additives which increa-
se VOCs. Also on display will be the
company’s range of dispersants,
especially Troysperse CD1 and
Troyperse 98C.
True Color
For this edition of Abrafati, True
Color will showcase its new ran-
ge of chameleon effect pigments,
which change in color depending
on the angle from which the coated
surface is seen. Several applications
will be demonstrated where the
performance of these products can
be verified in automotive coatings,
plastics, printing inks and textiles
alike. In its traditional Decomet line
of aluminum pigments, True Color
will introduce the 3000, 4000 and
5000 series, which enable chrome-
plated and mirror effects to be
reproduced.
Unimin
Unimin will stress at Abrafati 2009
the Minex line of functional fillers
and extenders. It provides high-
performance specialty minerals for
paints. Unimin will also be laun-
ching Minex 12, a clear synthetic
filler used in varnishes and clear co-
atings, allowing high additive levels
to improve scratch and abrasion
resistance.
Unimin has a calcinated kaolin unit
in the Ipojuca, Pernambuco (Nor-
theastern Brazil), which will launch
the Snobrite white kaolin pigment
extenders produced from a high-
performance calcinated kaolin for
the decorative paint segment. From
the investments that it has been
making in its precipitated calcium
carbonate production process, the
company will launch the Hiwhite
synthetic mineral fillers, consisting
of high-purity minerals that impro-
ve optical and rheological properties
in paints.
Other items to be exhibited and
stressed include the Royale mineral
slurries, formulated from thorou-
ghly selected mineral fillers to pro-
duce filler and additive dispersions
ready for use, thereby reducing
formulation costs while improving
optical and mechanical properties
in water-based coatings, and the
Hifill range of natural calcium
carbonates in powder form for use
where cost reduction is required for
producing low- and mid-price de-
corative paints. Unimin’s materials
are extracted from its own mineral
deposits and produced by strictly
particle distribution-controlled
processes.
Unipar Comercial
Unipar Comercial will bring to
Abrafati 2009 its 33 years’ expe-
rience in chemical distribution
to manufacturers of paints and
coatings, adhesives and resins,
stressing its attention to logistics,
quality and respect for the environ-
ment. In addition, Unipar hangs on
to a strong position as a supplier of
hydrocarbon solvents to the paint
and coatings industry, and will be
introducing friendlier alternatives,
such as line of isoparaffins, hydro-
