PAINT & PINTURA
goes to the Premium Water-Based
Enamel, Premium Floor Coating,
and several other products in this
category. Following this trend, the
company has renamed all other
products by category, such as
Standard Enamel, Standard Oil-
-Based Paint, and Thin-Set Mor-
tar. The economy line has been
renamed Unilar, and includes the
Economy Acrylic.
To make the change more visible
to consumers, the product con-
tainers gained new colors: the
premium packaging has a golden
background, and the standard
packaging silver. “Initially, this
change bolsters Universo Tintas’
image, which has always been
stronger than our trademarks. In
addition, they make it easier for
consumers to recognize the pro-
duct type that they are looking
for. In other words, it improves
the communication between the
parties,” Carla explains.
Chemical Distribution
– Customer Service - A
streamlined, quality customer
service
Providing quality raw materials
with special commercial condi-
tions is now standard in chemical
distribution. However, assuring
customers a skilled customer
service and technical support
makes the whole difference when
it comes to making the purcha-
sing decision and building a loyal
customer base.
Chemical distributors play a key
role in the Brazilian market not
only as regards supplying raw
materials, but also for a set of
services, such as technical su-
pport to both application and
the recommendation of best-
-performing products, as well as a
first-rate customer service. These
are the pillars for a chemical
distributor’s mission.
Customer needs and requirements
in the chemical distribution
business arise naturally and are
part of the market maturing pro-
cess, as customers tend to praise
solutions that provide value for
money or distinguish the end
product, together with proper
technical support and excellence
in customer service.
All of these factors contribute
to growth and improvement in
Brazil’s chemical distribution
market, which has kept pace with
the good economic situation and
experienced rapid growth and a
strong demand in 2010, resulting
in an important evolution in the
industry’s business.
The consumption boosted by the
increase in people’s purchasing
power and governmental incenti-
ves to important industries, such
as automotive, furniture and buil-
ding and construction, was the
factor that contributed the most
to the increased use of chemicals.
In order to keep up such growth
pace, however, it is very impor-
tant to sustain improvement pro-
cesses, including storage, logis-
tics, and especially a high-quality
customer service.
There are bright prospects for
2011 as well, with a booming
market and a high consumption
level. However, distributors are
already warning that the indus-
try will have difficulties with the
availability of certain raw ma-
terials in both the domestic and
international markets.
Those distributors who succeed in
doing business in this scenario, ha-
ving a closer relationship with su-
ppliers to ensure their supply and
continuously investing in storage
and transportation logistics, will
have great growth opportunities.
For the next few years, the world
development will be led by emer-
ging economies, particularly Bra-
zil, China and India, as developed
countries like the United States
and several others in Europe are
growing very slowly and still
facing crisis. In addition, major
events will be held in Brazil, such
as the 2014 FIFA World Cup and
the 2016 Olympic Games, which
will boost Brazil’s building and
construction industry over the
next few years.
Oxygenated Solvents - New
generation
Oxygenated solvents are gaining
more and more ground in the
Brazilian market because they are
essential for paint formulations to
meet the environmental require-
ments of the applicable laws.
The constant search for environ-
ment-friendly solutions and inno-
vations because of the impact that
certain raw materials have on the
environment, health and safety,
has brought about a new genera-
tion of environmentally friendlier
solvents: oxygenated solvents, whi-
ch have technical properties that
are relevant to a series of paint
and coatings applications.
Oxygenated solvents are used
in several applications, such as
paints, varnishes, printing inks,
adhesives, leather goods and
others, because they improve
performance in application and
provide an important contribu-
tion to film formation, resulting
in a better finish in coatings in
