products and aerosols.
The largest steel can manufactu-
rer in Brazil will also be highli-
ghting its latest launches: the
TOp can (900 ml), expanded and
ringless for ease of opening and
use, designed for higher-density
products. For automotive refinish,
the company provides the TOp-
-Gun can, which is easy to open
and close and is coupled with the
spray gun used in body shops for
painting vehicles.
Another novel product to be
on display at the trade show is
Brasilata’s Barricaço, a small steel
barrel produced from a 0.22 mm-
-thick sheet, reducing the weight
of the container by more than 35
percent. “Though seemingly more
fragile than conventional buckets
produced from 0.34 mm-thick she-
ets, Barricaço provides strength
and stability and supports short-
-distance transportation, while
being 100-percent recycle,” says
José Maria Granço, Director at
Brasilata’s Chemical division.
Brenntag
Brenntag is the full-line chemical
distribution leader in Brazil and
worldwide. Linking chemical ma-
nufacturers and chemical users,
the company provides business-
-to-business distribution solutions
for industrial and specialty chemi-
cals globally. A partner of such
large domestic and international
companies as Dow, Rhodia, Oxite-
no, Cristal, Lanxess and Braskem,
focusing on specialties from such
brands as Dow Corning, Momen-
tive, Kraton, Dow and Pinnova,
Brenntag has major new distribu-
tion plans for 2012. “We’ve been
working for a few years now with
Dow’s line of specialty resins,
thickeners, rheology modifiers and
dispersants,” says Cristiane Frei-
tas, Paint Specialties Coordinator
at Brenntag.
At Abrafati 2011, Brenntag is
going to show some of its market
trends, such as the Momentive
line, for waterborne epoxy syste-
ms, curing agents for that system
and epoxy modifiers, under the
brands Epirez, Epikure and Heloxy,
reactive diluents, such as Car-
dura, and the traditional EPON
line of backbone resins. “We’ll be
launching eight products at the
same time. They are from Dow
Corning’s line of paint additives,
such as defoamers, leveling agents
and flow promoters. Complemen-
ting our extensive line of specialty
chemicals for the paint industry,
Kraton is going to introduce its
elastomeric polymer technology
for waterproofing applications,”
says Cristiane, adding that Brenn-
tag is going to introduce its new
represented company Pinnova,
a manufacturer of plant-based
esters for adhesives and coatings
in general.
BYK
During Abrafati 2011, BYK will be
exhibiting a new series of addi-
tives, including wetting and dis-
persing agents, surface additives,
rheology modifiers and defoamers
for paints and inks. “For highli-
ghts, we can name BYK-1711,
BYK-014 and BYK-015, which are
silicone-free and mineral oil-free
polymeric defoamers for water-
borne paints. Also Disperbyk-199,
a polymeric antiflocculating,
wetting and dispersing agent for
waterborne systems, the Anti-
-Terra 250 controlled-flocculation
dispersing and wetting agent for
waterborne systems, and Disper-
byk-2155, a 100-solids disper-
sing and wetting agent for both
solvent-based and solvent-free
systems,” says Aurélio Rocha, Sales
Manager, Latin America, BYK.
Other highlights include: BYK-
3455, a fluorine-free substrate
wetting and leveling additive for
aqueous systems and UV coatings
with an improvement of leveling
properties; BYK-3550, a silico-
ne substrate wetting agent and
leveling agent on the basis of a
silicone acrylate copolymer for
solvent-borne coatings; BYK-399,
a silicone-free surface additive
to improve leveling; BYK-3933P, a
powdered multifunctional leveling
additive for clear and pigmented
powder coatings; BYK-415, a rhe-
ology additive for solvent-borne
automotive, industrial and plastic
coatings with excellent sagging
properties due to fast structure
recovery; the new BYKJET line
of additives for inkjet printing
inks; and the BYK-4511 additive,
