A country in the spotlight
This issue of Paint & Pintura brings you a very special article: our preview of Abrafati 2011, the most impor-
tant trade show for the paint industry, to be held from November 21 to 23 at Transamérica Expo Center, in São
Paulo. More than 200 manufacturers of paints and coatings and their suppliers from all over the world will be
together as exhibitors at the trade show, putting on an exclusive exhibition of the increasingly advanced and
sustainable solutions developed for the paint supply chain.
Expecting to receive 20,000 visitors, around 2,000 of whom coming from abroad, the trade show is taking place
at a rather favorable time for Brazil, which has set itself apart from other countries for its growth potential
for the next few years. This is the time to tackle the opportunities that are already presenting themselves and
will become more and more frequent.
I am sure that Abrafati 2011 will be a major opportunity to generate business. I hope that the entire value
chain will take the best out of this event, so that there may be great expectations and optimism right from the
beginning of the year 2012 to further our pursuit of results as positive as those of 2010.
For this year, even though the industry is expected to neither grow fast nor keep pace with Brazil’s GDP, it is
anticipated that the market will pick up in 2012 and reach a much higher growth rate. This is because the
structural factors that have been stimulating sales —such as the investments in housing and infrastructure,
the expansion of segments related to oil drilling and distribution, and especially the increase in foreign invest-
ment in Brazil— will stick around for many years, ensuring sustainable growth. That is all not to mention the
events that the country will host until 2022.
Read on the next few pages an interview with Dilson Ferreira, Chief Executive Officer at Abrafati (short for
Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers), which is organizing the trade show, where he tells us every
detail about Abrafati 2011, and then the show preview, available in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with the
hottest news from the 200-plus exhibiting companies.
Enjoy!
