tion needs to reach all parts of it in order to
facilitate the development of local manu-
facturers.”
Alexandre Brito, the newly installed presi-
dent of the Union of Paint Manufacturers in
Rio de Janeiro, known for short as Sintirj,
regretted the absence of his old friend and
former president of the entity Guilherme
de Souza Pires, who died in late August.
“Guilherme was one of the key supporters of
this forum and would certainly be glad with
the presence of you all here today.” Brito
also thanked the sponsors who invested in
the function and stressed the importance
of suppliers and manufacturers working
together to disseminate new technologies in
the industry. “We hope that this event will
happen every year.”
At the opening lecture, Nena Química’s
Alexandre Bastos elaborated on the theme
“The Paint Market in Rio de Janeiro – Pri-
mary Development Driver,” providing an
optimist outlook for the industry and
pointing out that Rio de Janeiro is now the
center of attention, hosting major events
and receiving heavy investments in infra-
structure, which will have a positive effect
on the paint industry. Bastos also sustained
that paint manufacturers should unite in
order to play an active role in governmental
decisions by providing ideas and propos-
als for the benefit of all. “We have several
projects, and one of them refers to the
creation of a paint laboratory in the city of
Rio de Janeiro, which will enable us to run
the tests required for meeting regulatory
requirements.”
