A Year of Accomplishments
Another year begins, and Paint & Pintura Magazine is even more experienced to bring you news and information on the paint
and coatings market with total safety and credibility. We will publish on each page new information to contribute to sustainable
growth in the industry.
Accordingly, for the first issue of the year, the magazine brings you a special article which has become the subject of great expec-
tations regarding the continuous growth of this industry. On the following pages, you, reader, will see the views of the industry’s
main entities —Abrafati and Sitivesp— on the impacts of the construction works for the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games
on the paint industry, given the investments to be made in building and construction. The two of the events will have very favora-
ble effects on Brazil’s economic growth for the years to come and will leave an important legacy behind them, while being extreme-
ly positive to the paint industry.
This issue also brings you two reports that are very important to the paint industry, one on metallic packaging, and one on pro-
duction equipment, which include inputs from major suppliers and an overview of these markets.
But this is just the beginning. For 2012, in addition to the magazine, Agnelo Editora has planned a series of events that will com-
plement our mission in the industry. We will carry on with the regional forums which we put together in 2011, while improving
them to better meet the industry’s needs. Last year we held three forums on coatings technology and management in Fortaleza,
Ceará; Goiânia, Goiás; and Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro. They’ll be four this year, in Fortaleza, Ceará; Goiânia, Goiás; Vitória,
Espírito Santo, and Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, plus Latincoat & Adhesives, to be held in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.
This year promises to be one of many accomplishments and successes to us all. Only we need to know how to tackle the opportuni-
ties that are already arising and will get more and more intense over the next few years.
We, at Agnelo Editora, wish all of you in the paint and coatings industry a New Year full of accomplishments, peace, love and
success!
Enjoy!

Impacts of FIFA World Cup and Olympics on the Paint
Industry – Building & Construction - A Promising Market
The 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, major
events that will be hosted by Brazil, are boosting economic gro-
wth and business in several markets, including the paint indus-
try, due to the investments that are being made in construction.
In the opinion of Dilson Ferreira, Chief Executive Officer at the
Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturer’s, known for short
as Abrafati, those two events will have very favorable effects
on economic growth for the years to come and will leave an im-
portant legacy behind them. “The investments in construction
and modernization of sporting facilities are only a small part of
what is involved, which also includes expansion and upgrades of
hotel complexes and airports, urban mobility solutions, telecom-
munications systems, re-urbanization, urban improvement and
many other actions, which have a cascade effect on the whole
economy. And paints are present in all of those investments.
Accordingly, the events will have a very positive impact on the
industry, which will see a boom in sales,” he says.
“The impacts of the World Cup and the Olympics on the paint
industry given the investments that are going to be made in
construction will certainly be positive,” says Airton Sicolin, Ad-
visor to the Board of Sitivesp (short for São Paulo State Union of
Paint and Coatings Manufacturers). “The events create oppor-
tunities for the economy as a whole, contributing to boosting
business in the paint and coatings industry as well. The resul-
ting improvement in employment, income and credit availabi-
lity levels has a positive effect on paint consumption for new
buildings, renovations and maintenance. The new buildings de-
signed to meet the requirements of the FIFA World Cup and the
Olympic Games will add to the demand not only for decorative
paints, but also for protective coatings, which are present in the
equipment and furnishings to be used in the entire infrastructu-
re that is being prepared for the mega sporting events.”
