CasaE can also be used in any ordinary house and is entire-
ly feasible to the market. We want to gradually transform
the construction industry and its consumers’ culture,” says
Alfred Hackenberger, President of BASF for South America.
Several solutions and innovations from BASF will be imple-
mented in the construction of CasaE which directly reduce
water and power consumption and CO2 emissions. In addi-
tion, the project will provide answers to essential questions
concerning the sustainable construction market, such as
fast processes, more affordable homes, durable construc-
tion materials, reuse, and the health and comfort of the
people who will live in those spaces.
“The project brings lots of new developments into Brazil’s
construction market and provides the industry with
the most differentiated technology in high performance
materials, energy efficiency and climate protection. Our
commitment is to transform chemistry so as to provide
innovative and economically feasible solutions. This way,
we’ll contribute to the construction of a more sustainable
future for the future generations,” Hackenberger explains.
BASF believes that sustainability is a key growth and value
creation driver. In the future, it will be even more strongly
integrated into business decision-making processes.
“As a chemical company, we want to be the catalysts of this
change, ensuring a new, more sustainable construction
culture,” Hackenberger points out.
Colormix Strikes Partnership with Eckart
GmbH
Addressing the theme “Creating a Bright Future,” Colormix
announces distribution of Eckart pigments for coatings
and plastics.
Colormix, part of the Formitex Group and provider of
specialty chemical solutions to meet industry requirements
concerning organic, inorganic and effect pigments and
pigment dispersions, started last April to represent and
distribute pigments from Eckart GmbH to customers in the
plastic and coatings industries all over Brazil.
To announce the partnership, Colormix held on March 28 a
technical seminar on coatings and plastics at Club Tran-
santlântico, in São Paulo, in order to introduce to custo-
mers and employees the most innovative and competitive
solutions from Eckart, one of the world’s leading effect
pigment manufacturers.
The seminar comprised lectures on “Eckart Solutions for
Coatings,” delivered by Robert Maul, and “Eckart Solutions
for Plastics,” by Martin Schaal. The innovations introduced
for the coatings segment were aluminum pigments, alu-
minum pigments for waterborne applications, gold/bronze
pigments, and effect pigments.
Events - DuPont Opens Brazil Innovation
Center in Paulínia
DuPont Brazil announced last March another important
stage in the expansion of its Innovation and Technology
Center in Paulínia, São Paulo, which was opened in 2009.
During the opening event, the company brought cus-
tomers and partners together to introduce the Brazil
Innovation Center, which was specifically created to
encourage scientific cooperation and product develop-
ment and innovation activities to help to cope with the
major challenges arising out of the rapid growth of the
country’s population, such as the growing demand for
food and the need to reduce its dependence on fossil
fuels and protect lives and the environment.
The new Innovation Center leverages the power of
DuPont’s global network and provides an environment
for collaboration with our customers, government,
academia and business partners to meet some of the
growing needs in the areas of food, protection and
energy throughout Brazil. DuPont has more than 9,500
scientists and engineers located in 150 technical centers
around the world. “The Brazil Innovation Center is the
seventh for DuPont, and its purpose is in line with the
company’s global approach, which consists of helping
to find solutions to major challenges facing humanity.
Important interactions at this new center have already
demonstrated its problem-solving might, serving as a
catalyst for growth and uncovering unmet needs that
will improve the lives of people here and everywhere,”
said Thomas M. Connelly, executive vice president and
chief innovation officer for DuPont, who attended the
function.
Brazil has been selected due to the strategic role that
it plays in the world economy, as well as the company’s
business. In 2001, the Brazilian subsidiary reported sales
of US$ 2.4 billion in Brazil, which not only is a historic
record for the company, it also represents exactly 50
percent of all sales in Latin America, which amounted to
US$ 4.8 billion at the close of the year. Such figures have
put Brazil in the third position in world revenues, right
after the United States and China. “Innovation is in our
company’s DNA. For this reason, we know that invest-
ments in these capabilities are key to securing sustaina-
ble growth for DuPont in Brazil and Latin America,” says
Eduardo Wanick, DuPont’s president for Latin America.
