with the customer, so that we can review its requirements
and we can both find a solution together. This is what we
want to give our customers: solutions within short times,”
Junho explains.
In the full version of this interview, available in Portuguese
only, business director Junho tells us all details of this pro-
position to develop solutions together that Dow is making to
its customers, a process called “Solutionism – Solutions for
Human Progress.”
Titanium Dioxide - Matchless Opacity, Color
and Brightness
Paint industry seeks constant innovation in titanium dioxi-
de; improved dispersion and enhanced performance at lower
costs
The titanium dioxide market has been developing at the
same pace as the paint industry, so much so that innovation
is associated with enhanced performance in target applica-
tions, such as clean coatings, allowing TiO2 products to be
supplied with improved gloss, softness and light-fastness,
outstanding dispersion properties and weatherability. In
addition, even though there are a few products that can
partly replace titanium dioxide, they still cannot match its
performance and other properties, such as matting and
tinting efficiency, under equal conditions.
However, as in the industry in general, 2012 was an unusual
year for the titanium dioxide segment, which neither deve-
loped nor grew as previously expected. For this year, an up-
swing is expected in our economy, and it may be a slow one,
but will certainly bring about more positive expectations, as
Brazil is already bursting with opportunities arising out of
the investments in infrastructure required for the country
to host major events, such as the FIFA World Cup and the
Olympic Games, and also governmental incentives to hou-
sing projects.
Production Equipment: Mills, Dispensers and
Mixers - Quest for Maximum Efficiency
Production equipment makes paint production processes fas-
ter, and the resulting productivity and quality improvements
make paint companies more profitable. In addition, they are
provided together with technical assistance and after-sales
support to applications, processes, preventive maintenance
and corrective maintenance.
The production equipment industry has evolved a lot over
the past few years to meet the needs of manufacturers that
are always introducing new products. For this reason, the
technologies used in production equipment very often requi-
re retrofitting and new solutions.
Equipment manufacturers tend to increasingly develop their
ability to produce machines that deliver maximum efficiency
through instrumentation and control systems. In addition,
they seek to meet the requirements of their customers with
equipment featuring improved dispersion, grinding, mixing
and tinting performance and lower waste generation, and
with such key services as technical assistance and after-
-sales support. All of these factors will lead automation to
expand and, therefore, equipment sales to grow.
