PAINT & PINTURA
behind many lectures that could
have otherwise been presented
and would have added to the
quality of our congress. Despite
our limit of 72 lectures provided in
six auditoriums, we were able to
secure a higher quality level in all
of those lectures. And those lectures
which didn’t make the congress
went automatically to the Poster
Session, a space where their ideas
and contents will be available for all
visitors to see. This is the alternative
we have given to those lecturers
who registered their papers but
were not able to have them included
in the congress program.
It’s something hard to manage, and to
manage it properly, we have a scienti-
fic committee set up for the congress,
consisting of professionals who are
knowledgeable about not only current
technologies, but also the paint and
coating industry and its requirements.
Paint & Pintura Magazine:
And what’s the number of
exhibitors?
Dilson Ferreira:
Our number of
exhibitors has increased, especially
by virtue of new exhibitors from
abroad. The exhibition and the
congress provide companies with
an opportunity to refresh their
knowledge and showcase their
products.
With a larger number of both do-
mestic and international exhibitors,
we increased the total exhibit space
by 6,000 square meters, so that we
can support this growth with no
compromise on quality. In addition,
a new space at Transamérica Expo
Center has proved better-suited for
our needs regarding both the congress
and the trade show. In a nutshell, we
have quite a few goods things going
for the event.
In excess of 250, not only has the num-
ber of exhibitors achieved our target,
it has exceeded our expectations and
brought more diversity to our paint
and coatings industry. The more com-
panies exhibiting innovative products
and services, the better. More inno-
vations and products on display are
in the best interests of the exhibition.
It is worth pointing that we have seen
a substantial increase in the number
of international exhibitors, especially
from Asia, Europe and the United
States. This leaves no doubt about
the growing interest in our country
and strongly reflects in the number
of foreign companies in attendance
at the show. The increase in number
of international exhibitors compared
to the previous edition is around 40
percent.
Paint & Pintura Magazine:
What are the Abrafati 2013
podium discussions about?
Dilson Ferreira:
We are having
four podium discussions. The
congress is officially kicked off by a
lecture delivered by Antonio Carlos
Lacerda, chairman of Abrafati’s
Management Board and senior vice
president at BASF for Latin America,
providing an overview of the paint
market and related trends. He is
establishing a connection between
what visitors see at the
exhibition and what
lectures are presenting
at the congress, while
providing his short, mid
and long-term outlooks
for the Brazilian and
world markets. One
podium discussion is
taking place on the first day, at 7:00
pm, and conducted by economist
Henrique Meirelles, who served
as president of the Central Bank
from 2003 through 2010, adding
such a relevant experience in the
public sector to what was already a
successful career in a private sector,
including as president and chief
operating officer of BankBoston
Corporation. He is an economist
of great renown in the Brazilian
market and has an insight into the
political and social implications of
current economic changes.
On the 17th, we are having a lecture
delivered by two professionals from
Dow, Bob Mussell, director of research
and development for industrial coa-
tings, and Anna Paula Dacar, business
director at Dow Coating Materials in
Latin America, on the global dyna-
mic and prospects for the paint and
coatings industry in terms of raw
materials. Dow is a major supplier of
a vast range of chemicals to the paint
industry around the globe.
On the 18th, we are receiving Pro-
fessor Jamil Baghdachi, who is a
personality of great international
prominence and an expert on the
paint of the future, and is delivering
a lecture entitled “Emerging Polymer
and Coating Technologies”, which
covers a broad range of topics, from
existing coating technologies to the
last word on sustainability in our
