Adding to the 72 technical presentations at the congress,
the technical programwas enriched by the Poster Session
and the conference on radiation curing held in conjunc-
tion with RadTech South America, which provided a
major contribution to the debate and to spreading key
information across the supply chain.
Abrafati’s marketing manager Telma Florêncio says that
Abrafati 2013 was the result of intensive planning span-
ning two years, with great dedication and professiona-
lism, including the selection of the best technical papers
for the congress. “In addition, we had a large number of
international exhibitors this year, which shows how our
association is recognized by all major suppliers to the
paint industry.”
Abrafati 2013 did keep its promise to bring exhibitors, in-
novations andmajor customers fromall of Latin America
andBrazil. “We covered all regions in the hemisphere, and
we’re really glad with the result of the show. The motto
for Abrafati 2012 was innovation and technology. We are
pleased to say that the congresswas an absolute success,
with lecturers fromabroad and crowded auditoriums, not
to mention all other attendees who left their posts and
came here to seek information for future developments.

partner for all these years of congresses and exhibits.

Brazil, the theme for which was “Color and Appearance
Harmony”, at Hotel Tryp Berrini, in São Paulo.
BYK-Gardner’s own Gabi Kigle-Böckler, manager of the auto-
motive business and leading developer of color and appearan-
cemeasurement equipment, was in attendance and provided
a lecture at the meeting.
“This is the third time we are holding the BYK-Gardner User
Meeting in Brazil, andwe’ve invited all customers who use key
equipment fromBYK for an update on newdevelopments, mo-
dels and technologies. It’s a strictly technical presentation of
new developments from the US and European editions of the
BYK-Gardner User Meeting that can be applied in the Brazilian
market bymanufacturers of motor vehicles, coatings and auto
parts. So the idea is to bring this audience together and show
them new equipment models, such as the Cloud-Runner and
the BYK-mac i,” stressesMAST’s director Marco Storel, adding
that registered attendees numbered around 70 people.
This year’s edition of BYK-Gardner UserMeeting Brazil focused
on sharing experiences in the field of color and appearance
control. “New Challenges to Achieving ‘Class A’ Surface Qua-
lity in an Ever-Changing Production Environment,” referring
to new pigments, new application materials, new production
processes, etc., “Color Harmony from ‘Design to Material
Approval’ to Production Control” (A Global View),” “Latest
News on Color Matching of Effect Finishes for OEM and
Refinish Applications,” “New Visual Perception Studies and
Correlation to Instrumental Waviness Data,” and “Online Color
and Appearance Process Control” were the themes covered.
Sergio Migonda, sales executive at MAST, emphasizes the
points of difference displayed by the novel devices introduced
during the meeting. “The BYK-mac i does everything that our
latest multi-angle spectrophotometer does, that is, it takes
measurements fromsix angles, one of which is -15°, itmeasures
pigment particle sizes, and it characterizes effect pigments
with aluminum content and gloss measurements, while fe-
aturing the added capability of fluorescence measurement.
One other freshly-launched product is Cloud-Runner, which
measures mottling and cloudiness. We have demonstration
systems for the two of them in Brazil, where they’re already
on the market. Customers who already own our BYK-mac will
be allowed to upgrade their devices. All they have to do is ship
them to Germany, and each device will be turned into a BYK-
