stands out for the large amounts of coatings it uses. Liquid and
powder coatings, especially coatings for plastic parts, are the
primary productsWEGTintas supplies to foreignmultinationals
and domestic manufacturers.
According to WEG Tintas’ chief executive officer Reinaldo
Richter, the company cherishes a relationship with all of its
customers in the appliance and other segments which is one of
partnership and thus leads it to research and develop coatings
that ensure not only improved looks and protective properties,
but alsobetter productivity and cost savings on the coating line.
“Inpowder coatings for home appliances, this partnership is es-
sential, asmost coating lines are automated, and thequality and
productivity factors are highly regarded. This requires formula-
tions specifically designed toensurebetter yields,”Richter says.
Home appliance coatingsmust impart exceptional performance
to the product. These coatings are used on furniture and ap-
pliances at large. In our day-to-day lives, they must withstand
the use of cleaning products, water, and high temperatures
from stoves, resist yellowing from foods and so on, meeting
the requirements of their various applications. “To meet those
requirements,WEGTintas has laboratories available todevelop
products according to any requests to this effect. Nowadays,
in addition to the aforementioned resistance and other pro-
perties, home appliance coatings are required to comply with
other specifications. Not only does the Nobac line of coatings
provide these features, it doesonebetter andadds antimicrobial
properties. Power-coated satin-touch finishes impart a velvety
feel known as ‘soft touch’,” Richter points out.
For WEG, by developing new lines, it has an opportunity to
introduce and improvemore sustainable technologies, helping
to lower energy costs in production processes and, in so doing,
further strengthening the WEG brand as a benchmark in the
powder coatings market.

from Faculdades Oswaldo Cruz.
Bringing the experience he has amassed since 1994, when he

architectural paints based on alkyd polymers (Coralit line)
andarchitectural paints basedonaqueous dispersions (for-

and Rende Muito). I’ve also worked on the roll-out and
follow-up of new formulations in production processes,
including support to quality control, and the preparation
of training programs for fellow employees, and was head
technician of three of ICI Paints’ product lines for Brazil
and the Mercosur trade bloc (Hammerite, Wood Finishes
& Stains, and Primers & Complements). In addition, I have
enforced the company’s strategic guidelines and helped it
meet market requirements and trends by reducing costs
and incorporating new rawmaterials, new processes and
new technologies,” Areas points out.
Areaswas hiredby Lamil-LageMinérios inNovember 2007
as technical consultant on lamellar minerals to its protec-

when he joined Akzo Nobel’s Resins & Expo division as
assistant technician and technical consultant on resins and
exports. “I started out as head of technical support for
the company’s entire portfolio for the domestic market,
working in cooperation with the sales team and focusing
on the development and technical improvement of the
marketplace. I’ve also provided Akzo Nobel-licensed
companies with advisory support on formulations and
manufacturing processes for coatings and complements
(exports), played a key role in thedevelopment and launch
of two acrylic copolymers for decorative paints—namely,
SB 8826 and SB 8758—and in adjusting those products to
Brazil’s technical standards for the industry, and delivered
lectures at a number of technical conferences and training
programs. I’ve even been an auditor in a quality audit
conducted at an Akzo Nobel-licensed company in Ghana
(Africa),” Areas says.
