Revista Paint & Pintura - Edição 245

CLIPPING PAINT&PINTURA | Julho 2019 | 7 Moves Toward Creating Actual Value.” For the second act, Eastman’s market development manager Marcos Basso delivered the lecture “Solving the Puzzle in Low- Odor, VOC-Free Additives for Decorative Coatings.” One of themost anticipated attractions was a panel with coatings industry leadership on the paths for the industry, the manage- ment challenges facing it, and newbusiness opportunities for the next decade. The featured leaders for this panel were Alexandre Bastos, head of sales at Nena Tintas, AFE Tintas’ chiefmanufactur- ing officer Alexandre Brito, José Carlos Zanotelli, sales officer at Belafix, and Argalit’s CEORaphael Cassaro, with Agnelo Editora’s own editor-in-chief Marcos Mila as mediator. Moving on to the afternoon, the first topic in focuswas packaging materials. After a brief presentation by Murilo Amaral, executive manager at Bomix, the headof Braskem’s RigidPropylene Packag- ing segment, Mauro Catizani Caetano, presented a lecture titled “Reverse Logistics and Paint Plastic Pail Recycling – Wecycle.” Up next, novel environmentally friendly technologies from Covestro were introduced by the lecture “Polyurethane and Polyaspartic Coatings: Efficiency and Benefits of Low-VOC Sys- tems,” delivered by Covestro’s own technical manager for paints and coatings Ana Paula Alonso Cardoso. What the future seems to hold for the coatings industry is aworld where newnichemarketswill be key to growth and consolidation in the marketplace. To discuss this, another panel was held with technology officers andmanagers in the industry, addressing the theme “NewDevelopments, Innovations and Trends in Products and Applications.” Manufacturer and suppliers are increasingly looking to strike partnerships for the development of rawmaterial and inputs that will deliver better results and cost-benefit ratios. These are the research and product development leaders who were on the panel discussing the best ways for the industry to go forward: Belafix chemist Eduardo Aguiar Torres Júnior; Felipe Fittipaldi, research and development officer at Tintas Marfim; Leonardo Lyra de Alvarenga, research, development and inno- vation expert at Argalit; and AFE Tintas manufacturing officer Alexandre Brito, who served as mediator. What would the five priority actions be for addressing an essential issue that is managing the complexity of staying up to speed on technology while innovating in a competitive way? This is what the lecture delivered by Washington Yamaga, of Rácz, Yamaga & Associates, titled “Managing Innovation in Brazil’s Coatings Industry,” was all about. INDUSTRY IN THE SPOTLIGHT - INNOVATION BY VOCATION Keeping upwithmarket developments, Argalit expands its portfo- lio, extends its business to theBrazilianMidwest andplans toopen newmarkets, too, within the regions it already serves. Innovation has always been part of Argalit’s history. It was the first mortar factory in the state of Espirito Santo and pioneered the development of plastic bag-packed spackling paste. Now it has an extensive product range, and its newcoatings plant, which it opened in 2006, has enabled it to expand it capacity to 5million liters per year and to supply customers in several other Brazilian states. Receiving its ISO9001 and ISO 14001 certifications in recent years was also a key step in the process of further professional- izing the company and its processes. Its newly launched line of industrial coatings has allowed for further growth with a very good reception among its customers. Argalit was born in 1982 as amortar factory in Cachoeiro de Itape- mirim, southern Espirito Santo. For better logistics and quality, they moved to Cariacica, a town located in the Greater Vitória area, which site is now exclusively operated to produce mortars and grouts. “Keeping an eye on the market and its trends and opportunities, we have invested in a new business: decorative paints. We first opened a newmanufacturing facility, in Cariacica as well, to produce paints, and now we’ve expanded our manu- facturing capabilities to another segment: industrial coatings,” says chief executive Raphael Cassaro Machado.
