Currently, around 90 percent of the country’s decorative paint output—which amounted to 1.28 billion liters for 2018—is compliant with the applicable quality standards. This figure represents a major improvement over the industry’s 2002 scenario, when the program was created to address the problem that around 50 percent of the paints made in Brazil were nonconforming. The PSQ is part of the Brazilian Habitat Quality and Productivity Program (PBQP-H) of the country’s federal government, which aims to upgrade and improve the quality of products used in the building and construction industry. Under the program, the quality of paints available on the Brazilian market is certified by quarterly product analyses that are based on standards issued by the ABNT (Brazilian Association for Technical Standards). The results of such analyses are public information and can be found on the PBQP-H’s official website at www.tintadequalidade.com. br, developed by Abrafati. The latest report was published inApril.
