paint production and sales. “Being certified means
being in compliance with the most stringent re-
quirements.”
Pigment Dispersions - Process optimization
Pigment dispersions are primarily related to the
production of decorative paints, which had rather
positive results in 2010 thanks to Brazil’s excellent
performance in the construction industry, and
manufacturers saw their business grow accordin-
gly. In fact, manufacturers of decorative paints
are now the leading consumers of pigment disper-
sions in Brazil. Such positive results were driven
by the large sales volume in the housing market,
combined with new enterprises and the federal
government’s social programs for housing.
The country’s South and Southeast regions lead
the demand for these materials, but 2010 also saw
a massive development in the North, Northeast
and Mid-West regions. Such development is main-
ly due to the advantages to acquiring pigment
dispersions, as they optimize production processes
because they can be purchased in appropriately-
-dispersed manner from manufacturer having
expertise in the dispersion process.
There are numerous advantages to using pigment
preparations in paint production processes, such
as smaller amounts of raw materials required,
improved productivity, reduction of raw mate-
rial inventories, lower consumption of power and
cleaning solvents, lower labor costs, easy quality
control, suppliers responsible for the dispersion
process, a lower end cost, lower plant cleaning
requirements, dispersions with enhanced pigment
performance, and reduced handling of powder
pigments in the company, avoiding undesirable
contaminations.
In a nutshell, the benefits are many, but manu-
factures still haven’t fully captured them becau-
se they need to pay attention and include those
benefits in their cost structure, so that they can
get an appreciation of the earnings that they’re
failing to realize, whether in the production, deve-
lopment, logistic or administrative sphere. Howe-
ver, more and more paint companies have been
doing the math, and when they get results, they
realize that it is not worth bearing all of the cost
of producing dispersions internally, as they have
an option to consume quality products on the
market and save efforts, labor and equipment, so
that they can focus on their core business, which
is manufacturing paints.
Today, excellent quality products are available in
Brazil in terms of dispersion, high productivity
by batch (maintenance of color standard), high
degree of grinding, outstanding color clarity stan-
dards and other key features, all at low costs.
Special piece on the Brazilian Northeast
Region’s Paint Market – Ceará – Part I
The time of the Northeast
The Northeastern paint market has been boosted
by the region’s rapid development and promises to
grow at a two-digit rate this year, while doubling
in size over the next eight years.
There have been lots of talk about how to develop
Brazil’s Northeast region, but concrete measures
towards that end began to be implemented only a
few years ago, putting the region in the spotlight
and awakening the local potential for production
and consumption. Keeping pace with the Brazilian
economy as a whole, the Northeast region has
been displaying rapid development rates, with a
considerable promotion of classes D and E to the
consumer population, also thanks to the nation’s
current economic situation and the investments
made in the related industries, which have also
contributed to job creation.
The truth today is the Northeast region is to Bra-
zil like Brazil is to the rest of the world, i.e. while
the country as a whole grows at a reasonable
pace, the region grows much faster, and the rea-
son is because it has been left aside over the years
by virtue of the rapid development experienced by
the South and Southeast regions, especially in the
past few decades. Of course, there is a long way to
go, but the bases are there, and prospects are bri-
ght. Experts are very optimistic about the region’s
economic growth, especially on the back of the
infrastructural works that are planned for it and
