as decorative paints, protective coatings, automotive OEM

maritime coatings. Other industries that also use silicas
include foods, resins, adhesives and sealants, rubber goods,

Carbon Blacks - Versatile and Predominant
With their unique properties, carbon blacks are extensi-
vely used in the paint and coatings industry in general to
provide high color strength, deep blue shades, and the key
color —black
Having a strong and distinctive tinting power, not only do
carbon blacks stand out as the pigment for black colors,
they are also present in all colors as colorants. Their versa-
tility enables them to impart key properties to paints and
coatings, such as gloss, proper viscosity, bluish undertones,
processability, good stability, color strength, electric con-
ductivity, UV protection, increased weatherability, impro-
ved rheology and, of course, the black color.
Printing inks account for much of the demand for carbon
blacks, be they for newspapers, magazines, labels, printer
tonners or currency paper, among other items. Neverthe-
less, they are used as raw material in all sorts of paints
and coatings, such as decorative paints, maritime coatings,
protective coatings, wood finishes, automotive coatings,
power coatings, etc.
The paint and coatings industry’s main requirements
applicable to carbon blacks refer to quality, performan-
ce, consistency, availability and cost, and while many of
them depend exclusively on each particular application,
the industry generally requires carbon blacks to provide
high color strength, deep blue shade, easy dispersion, gloss,
and even FDA approval and compliance with national or
foreign regulations.
Innovation in Decorative Paints - Sherwin-
Williams Launches Metalatex Clima &Tempo
Painting exterior environments fast and with quality is the
dream of any ordinary homeowner. Ensuring good hiding
and a perfect finish would take countless hours, as one
coat was applied over another, followed by even more wai-
ting time upon conclusion to allow the paint to dry, always
hoping and praying that it wouldn’t rain. To solve all these
problems, Sherwin-Williams has just launched the Clima &
Tempo line of innovative acrylic paints that optimize the
time between coats and shortens paint drying times. Accor-
ding to Marketing Director David Ivy Jr., Clima & Tempo
makes the application easier on wet days: “It’s the only
decorative paint on the market that doesn’t get stained
by water drops and dries within an extraordinarily short
period of no more than 30 minutes,” he assures.
Part of the Metalatex line is already known in the market-
place, and according to Sherwin-Williams’ President Mark
Pitt, the new product has several points of differentiation,
such as new formula and performance level, high streng-
th and outstanding wet hiding power. “Clima & Tempo is
ideally suited for exterior finishes, as its unique formula
ensures that the paint does not get stained or run off due
to the action of the rain, water drops or dew only a few
minutes after application. It’s the perfect solution to the
famous problem of being unable to paint outdoor walls on
rainy days.”
“Not only is it a premium paint that involves an innovati-
ve concept, with high quality, performance and strength,
Clima & Tempo ensures a non-discoloring paintwork, pre-
vents the extraction of soluble substances, and reduces the
total drying time by as much as 50 percent,” says Sherwin-
-Williams’ Decorative Paint Manager Eginaldo Franzão.
Clima & Tempo is available in 10 colors with satin-touch
finish and in 18l and 3.6l containers.
Launches - WEG Tintas Expands Product
Range
WEG Tintas has just introduced to the market a new option
in specialty decorative paints, the WEBPOXI HIDRO AVA
413 NOBAC epoxy finishing paints.
Their waterborne formulation uses the patented techno-
logy NOBAC, which provides protection from bacteria and
fungi, which makes these paints well-suited for environ-
ments where hygiene is a key factor, such as hospitals,
daycares, industrial and residential kitchens, the food and
pharmaceutical industries, surgical centers and laborato-
ries.
The new paint features excellent decorative finish, stain
resistance, low dust pick-up and great chemical streng-
th. It can be applied onto various substrates, such as new
and unfinished concrete surfaces, PVA putty, acrylic putty,
waterborne acrylic sealants, solvent-based primers and
waterborne acrylic paints.
Specialty Paints
Two new items are being added to the line of specialty
paints recently developed by WEG Tintas. Following the
