PAINT & PINTURA FORUM DISCUSSES INNOVATIONS GOIÂNIA With a turnout of 114 registered attendees from the paint and coatings industry, the 37th Paint & Pintura Coatings Technology and Management Forum, Midwest Region, took place on August 16 at Hotel Mercure Goiânia, in Goiânia, Goiás, and was sponsored by major suppliers to the industry, such as Arkema-Coatex, Brenntag, Elementis Specialties, IMCD, MCassab, quantiQ, the MAST Group, and Wana Química. Kicking off the forum, the plenary session titled “Return on Investment and Coatings in Brazil: Attractiveness by Segment and the Future” presented to the audience current success stories of Brazilian-basedmanufacturers and their actual return on investment in various market segments. The plenary session was conducted Francisco Racz, a partner at Racz, Yamaga & Associates with more than 40 years’ experience in the coatings industry and related products in Latin America. Up next came quantiQ technical coordinator Sergio Ru- bio with the lecture “Bismuth Vanadate: A Cost-Benefit Overview in Highly Saturated Colors.” Elementis Specialties followed with a presentation that took a different approach to rheology, discussing it as a tool for resolving problems that typically occur in the formulation of decorative coatings. To cover that ground, the lecture titled “Applied Rheology to Solve Typical Problems in Decorative Paints” was delivered by Carlos Ramiro, applications manager for South America. Watchful of their customers’ every need and always in the market for innovations, Brenntag contributed the lecture “New Technologies and Product Launching for Architectural and Industrial Coatings: Adding Value to the End Product,” whichwas delivered by Sergio Santos, the company’s own technical expert on ACES (Adhesives, Coatings, Elastomers and Sealants). At the last lecture for the morning period, MCassab and Olin demonstrated their top-selling resins, curing agents and reactive thinners. The title was “Epoxy Solutions for Coatings,” and presenting the lecture together were MCassab’s product development coordinator Ana Amélia Horta and Olin’s product development technician Thiago Faria. Setting the afternoon proceedings into motion, IMCD product steward Flavia Zangrandi, along with Marcos Basso, coatings development manager for Latin America at Eastman, covered the theme “IMCD: Innovating with Solutions and Technology, and Solving the Puzzle in Low-Odor, VOC-Free Additives for Decorative Coatings with its Partner Eastman.” The afternoon’s opening act was followed by Arkema Coatex, whose technical salesperson Ricardo Leonardi put on a pre- sentation titled “Adding Performance and Optimizing Costs in Water-Based Coatings.” Wrapping up the forum, Washington Yamaga, founding part- ner at Rácz, Yamaga & Consultores Associados, delivered his lecture titled “Digitization in the Coatings Industry: Complex But Essential.” EVENTS - SANTA CATARINA TO HOST PAINT & PINTURA FORUM ANEW The Paint & Pintura Forum is once again going to be hosted by Criciúma, Santa Catarina (Brazil). The success of the editions held in the region over the past few years has led Agnelo Edi- tora to pick out the municipality one more time for the 38th Paint &Pintura Coatings Technology andManagement Forum, Southern Region.
