Sintirj’s president also honored the sponsors to the event,
namely, BASF, Bomix, Innova, Liarte Metalquímica, M.Cassab,
Metalgráfica Módulo Renner, Oswaldo Cruz, Saver, and
Transcor, and paid special tributes to two businessmen who
were very dear in the Rio de Janeiro market and have recently
passed away: José Carlos Afonso Martins, director at Luxcor;
and Jorge Elmor, chief executive officer at Redutores Tempo.
The Sintirj board also introduced the Special Honors category
to praise those who have stood out in the Rio de Janeiro paint
market over the years. The receiver was Alcides Aguilar Ja-
neiro, chief executive officer at Tintas Águia, who has been en-
gaged in the industry for 55 years and is recognized as a bold,
dedicated entrepreneur. Since Mr. Aguilar Janeiro was unable
to attend the function, his son Alcides Aguilar Filho accepted

Industry in the Spotlight - Products and
Specialized Advisory Services
D’Altomare is attaining 40 years of engagement and experi-
ence in the specialty chemical market, supplying resins, resin
modifiers, water-repellent and other additives to the paint
industry, while providing technical assistance and specialized
advisory services to optimize processes and end products.
Specialty chemical distributor D’Altomare is located in São
Paulo, at a full complex comprising laboratories, a training
center, a clean room, and storage and office spaces. “What
sets us apart from traditional chemical distributors in we’ve
specialized in all segments of the markets that we serve. While
strongly promoting product lines from the manufacturers
with which we have teamed up, we develop markets for new
products and technologies,” says D’Altomare’s new business
manager Luis Machado.
The company has consistently grown above the market aver-
age over the past ten years by focusing efforts on customers,
new partnerships and new products. “According to the latest
ranking published by the ‘ICIS’, D’Altomare is now one of the
ten largest chemical distributors in Brazil. For this year, we ex-
pect to grow 15 to 20 percent, with protected sales to the tune
of R$ 200 million,” Machado anticipates.
D’Altomare currently has 115 employees who are constantly
trained. “We have technical and sales teams available in
every region of Brazil. In addition, our company’s business
units include Dalchem, which has its own specialized struc-
ture to serve customers in major industrial segments, such as
paints and coatings, resins and construction chemicals,” says
Machado.
Luis Machado adds that Dow Corning was the company’s first
silicone distributor in Brazil. “We are still reaping the rewards
of that successful job, as we’ve broadened our range of suppli-
ers and have ten distribution partnership agreements in Bra-
zil, providing differentiated services dedicated to each of our
partners. And there’s more room for us to strike a few more
partnerships, so that we can complement our product range
and carry on with our development of product lines with the
required dedication,” Machado remarks.
Pigment Dispersions - New Horizons for Colors
With a strong presence in Brazil’s North and Northeast re-
gions, Spectracolor is about to expand its facilities and extend
its business to the nation’s entire territory.
An all-Brazilian company established in 1999, Spectracolor
manufactures pigment dispersions and sells raw materials and
equipment to paint companies of various segments. “Hav-
ing amassed years of experience with pigment dispersions
for the paint industry, I decided to start my own business in
a property that I owned in Recife, Pernambuco, with an area
of approximately 2,000 square meters, to meet a substantial
part of the demand in the North and Northeast regions,” says
chemical engineer Grace Mary Klein de Aquino, director at
Spectracolor.
Spectracolor is the product of the passion of its founder for
her region and her job. “Spite of excellent job offers in the Sou-
theast, I believed in the Northeast region’s potential and that
a local company was needed so that local customers can be
better served. I succeeded in overcoming all of the hurdles that
were involved at that time with a lot of dedication, hard work
and knowledge,” Grace highlights.
Over these 14 years in business, the company has been gro-
wing steadily and consistently, encouraging its director to
not only buy a plot of land to build up a new plant, but also
invest in equipment, technology and a quality policy. “This is so
Spectracolor will stand out for quality products and services.
Our plant is endowed with high-performance grinding equi-
pment, such as Zeta mills from Netzsch, and our laboratory
is equipped with Minezeta and PE 075 mills from Netzsch, a
colorimetric spectrophotometer, an automated extender, a Q-
-Sun xenon test chamber from Q-Lab and many other quality
control devices, which makes it very well-suited for its mis-
sion,” Grace points out.
Spectracolor’s customer base includes Brazil’s leading paint manu-
