Abrafati 2013 to Bring Together Companies from All Over the
World
There is great foreign interest in Brazil nowadays, and it has been leading pro-
fessionals and businesses from all parts of the world to get ready to attend and
participate in the International Paint Congress and International Exhibition of
Suppliers to the Paint Industry.
Present in the names of Abrafati’s congress and exhibition, the word “interna-
tional” has proved increasingly appropriate. The participation of companies and
individuals from abroad has grown substantially over the past few editions and
is expected to rise even higher in 2013. Given its growth prospects and leadership
at the regional level, Brazil has gotten firmly on the radars of major corporations
and suppliers to the paint industry. Accordingly, while global players who have
Brazilian operations will be flying in executives and technical staff from their head
offices to discuss business and new areas of research and development, other com-
panies based in Europe, Asia and elsewhere in the Americas will be coming for the
first time to seek opportunities and demonstrate their points of difference.
“Drawing exhibitors, visitors, lecturers and congress participants from Brazil and
other countries around the world, the trade show will include a lot of knowledge
and experience-sharing and a wide range of innovations on display. The congress
and the exhibition will be teeming with demonstrations of the state of the art and
most relevant advances in our industry. Abrafati 2013 will thus play a key part in
stimulating technological development and generating business,” says Abrafati’s
chief executive officer Dilson Ferreira.
Dow Presents Trends in Oxygenated Solvents
A chemical company which provides over 5,000 solutions in plastics, advanced ma-
terials, basic and performance chemicals, Dow held its Solutions Forum on March
13 to discuss various applications for oxygenated solvents.
The forum was attended by 110 customers in the decorative paint and coatings,
personal hygiene, agrochemical and cleaning chemical industries. Trends and new
market developments were introduced by case presentations, which also stressed
the benefits and economic feasibility of using oxygenated solvents in the various
industry segments involved.
John Davidson, global director at Dow Oxygenated Solvents, and Jorge Duval, Dow
Oxygenated Solvents’ marketing manager for Latin America, showed customers
how the oxygenated solvent market has grown 10 percent per year for the past
decade and how Dow seeks to provide customers with not only with raw materials,
but also solutions.
Several themes were covered by the forum program, and the highlights were the
advantages of using n-Propanol and n-Propyl acetate in printing inks, the use
of solvents in multifunctional formulations for the oil and gas industry, and the
introduction of an alternative solvent for household cleaning products.
“The forum provided an opportunity for dis-
cussing the global market, where traditional
solvents are being replaced with new formula-
tions that contemplate all key variables, such as
performance, compliance with safety regula-
tions and environmental and health protection
standards, and costs,” Duval remarks.
Dow’s broad range of oxygenated solvents
consists of more than 60 solutions, and the
company is willing to optimize formulations
towards delivering the best cost-benefit ratio
to customers, all not to mention its speciali-
zed technical support, global technology and
integrated plants that make companies more
competitive.

keep pace with its development, which results
in an ongoing process of creating solutions
that meet the requirements of new market
regulations, such as low-VOC products,” says
Davidson.
