AntonioLeite, global vicepresident of strategicmarketing
at SolvayCoatis, says that producingoxygenated solvents
from renewable sources is an irreversible trenddue to the

Seekingnew technologiesandconsidering thedemand forenvi-

Corrosion Inhibitors - Protection with Trend
TowardsGreenAlternatives

of friendlier products, meaning products featuring lower VOC
levels,noheavymetals,andenvironmentalfriendliness.Thepaint
industry itself has been seekingalternativeanticorrosiveagents
thatemploy innovativetechnologiesand,especially,complywith
nationalandinternationalstandardsconcerningthecontroloreven
eliminationofheavymetal-containingrawmaterials.
Over the past 25 years, growing environmental concerns and
regulations limiting the use of corrosion inhibitors containing
heavymetals have led thepaint and coatings industry toadopt
non-toxic corrosion inhibitors, especially in the coil coating, au-
tomotiveandoverall industrial coatings segments, according to

furtheraccelerated the introductionof theREACH (Registration,
Evaluation, Authorization&Restriction of Chemicals) initiative,
whichwill lead to theeliminationofproductsbasedonCr (VI) in
thecoatings industry.”
