RobertoMendonçadeBarros, economic consultant and founder
ofMBAssociados, who shared his overview of Brazil’s political
environment.“Thebeginningoftheyearprovedevenweakerthan
expected,affectingexpectationsforthewholeyear.Andthecurrent
administrationhascompletelymissed thechanceof recovery.The
year2016startedoffonthewrongfootand isnotgoingtogetany
better.”According toMendonça deBarros, as biased as hemay
be, thecurrentadministrationwon’tsee2018.“Onethingthatcan
improverapidly isexpectation,andwhenthathappens,consumers
willstartbuyingthingstheyarenowafraidto,butonlyunderanew
administrationwill thatactually takeplace. Inaddition, innovation
andcompetitivenessaregoingtobeincreasinglyimportant.Getting
all thesedifficultiesbehindus isgoing tobeahugechallenge, but
by2017wemaybepavingthewayforgrowth.There’sgoingtobe
some improvement,andnotthatfarahead,either.”

tionaldinnereventatClubedaAeronáutica.Itwasattendedby
150professionalsofthe industry,aswellasrepresentativesof
itsentities,suchasEduardoEugênioGouvêaVieira,president
oftheRiodeJaneiroIndustriesFederation(knownforshortin
PortugueseasFirjan),andDilsonFerreira,executivepresident
ofABRAFATI(short inPortugueseforBrazilianAssociationof
PaintManufacturers),alongwithSitivesp’sexecutivepresident
anddirectorAntonioCarlosdeOliveiraandPauloCésarAguiar,
respectively.
During the function, Sintirj president Carlos AugustoAlves
pointedoutsomeoftheactionsthathavebeenheldrecently
bytheentityandalsogavegoodnewstothosepresent:“Our
