EcoQuimica
TheLubrizolCorporationannouncesthat ithasacquiredEco-
QuimicaIndústriaeComércioProdutosQuímicosLtda.,amanu-
facturerandsupplierofcoatingstechnologyforproductssold
intodecorativepaints, textiles,cement,elastomericcoatings
andpapercoatings.Headquartered inPaulínia,amunicipality
inthestateofSãoPaulo,EcoQuimica(formerlyundercommon
ownershipwithMérciaIndústriaeComérciodeProdutosQuí-
micos)willexpandLubrizol’sperformancecoatingsfootprint
intheLatinAmericanmarketplace.
“TheacquisitionofEcoQuimicawillenableLubrizoltobroaden
our already comprehensive portfolioon a global basis and
provideusastronger localpresence inthismarket,”saidTesh
Gor, vicepresident andgeneralmanager of Lubrizol Perfor-
manceCoatings.“Thecombinedtechnologiesandknowledge
ofourtwocompanieswillallowustoprovideourcustomers
withmore comprehensive solutions inboth the global and
regionalmarkets.”
Inaddition, Lubrizol recentlypurchased landadjacent to the
EcoQuimica facility to support futureexpansion. “With the
combinedpropertysituated inaprime location inSãoPaulo,
Lubrizolplans toexpandwith theadditionofawarehousing
facility, aswell asanapplicationsand technical services lab,”
saysGilsonSantos,Lubrizol’svicepresidentforLatinAmerica.
EcoQuimica is nowpart of Lubrizol AdvancedMaterials, re-
porting into Lubrizol’s Performance Coatings business. This
transaction includesall intellectualproperty, trademarksand
customerlistsofEcoQuimica.Financialtermsoftheagreement
werenotdisclosed.

Resinasasachemistsince1979andwaspartoftheteamwhodevelo-

representative.Over theyears, however, I realizedour customers
neededotherproducts, too, so Iwent looking fornewpartners in
order toaddvalue toourbusiness,whilstmeetingourcustomers’
needs,”saysmanagingpartnerLeandroMedola.
Currently,thecompanyhasmorethan300 items in itsportfolioand
around 1,000clients invarioussegments. “Wesupplyallpaintand
coatings factories inBrazil, andwehave insideandoutside teams
consistingof professionalswithgreat technical skills andmarket
knowledge.Toservesomanycustomers,wehaveanoffice inOsa-
co, SãoPaulo, withfive employeesmaking sales over thephone
and another eight external employeeswho stay in touchwith all
customers,”saysMedola.
TheprimarymarketservedbyLema isthepaintandcoatings indus-
try,butothermarketsserved includehouseholdcleaningsupplies,
cosmetics,adhesives,chemicals,automotiveandothers.Werepre-
sentthecompaniesAskChemicals,ResinasYser,Quimisa,Riken,and
Ashland,andwesupplyproductsfromourrepresentedcompanies
alloverthenational territory,”Medolaconcludes.
Investments - IndustrialExpansion
SchützVasitexhasannouncedthatitisexpandingitsmanufacturing
capabilitiesbysettingupanewplastic IBCblowmoldingandpro-
duction line integratedwith itsused IBC recyclingand refurbishing
line.“Holdingontoour leadingposition inthe1,000-literplasticIBC
segmentinBrazilandcementingtheSchützgroup’sworldleadership
withthisinnovativekindofcontainer,ittookSchützVasitexonlyfour
yearsof localoperation toachievea55-percentmarketsharewith
aproduction lineoccupation rateofaround60percent.Therestill
arenumerousuntappednichemarkets for 1,000-liter plastic IBCs,
whichareindustriesthatstillhaven’tlearnedaboutthebenefitsand
advantagesof IBCsoverothercontainers intermsofcosts, safety,
processoptimizationandsustainability. Inviewofthoseuntapped
marketsandconsideringhowfastweachievedourcurrentposition,
wedecidedtoexpandthroughanewproduction line,”saysSchütz

Oncethenewlineissetup,thetotalinvestmentinland,construction,
installations,machinesandequipmentisexpectedtobearoundR$25

reconditioned IBCora refurbishedone (newplastickit ina reused
cage).Customerscanalsoopt forouradded logisticmanagement
