Bomix celebrates 20 years of great developments inplastic
packagingmaterials,especiallyforthepaint industry.
It’sbeen20yearsofaverywell-plannedandsuccessfulstrategy
thathasbeenacatalystofinnovationforthepaintandcoatings
industry.Bomixwascreatedin1996ascompanyspecializingin
manufacturingplasticpailsandjerrycansandsoonafterwards
was investing incutting-edge technologies, skilled labor and
uniqueservices.
Initially,Bomixwouldonlymanufacture20-literpailstoserve
customers inonemarket.Currently,Bomixhasmorethan80

SOLVENTS - ABIQUIMANNOUNCESCREATIONOFSOLVENTS
COMMISSION
TheBrazilianChemical Industry’sAssociation (known forshort in
PortugueseasAbiquim),backedbyleadingsolventproducers,has
createdtheIndustryCommissiononSolvents,whichisgoingtobe
officially launchedduringtheentity’sResponsibleCareCongress,
settotakeplace inOctober2016.The ideabehindthecommission
is to strengthen thepositionof thedomestic solvents industry.
“Weunderstand solvents areessential not only to the industry,
butalsotopeopleeverywhere.They’represent inourday-to-day
lives inavarietyof situations, suchas theadhesivesused inour
shoes,thepaintonourcars,theagribusiness,householdcleaning,
cosmeticsandendlessotherapplications,”saysBraskemsolvent
salesmanager EduardoPerez,who is servingas coordinator on
thecommission.
Domesticproducerstooktheinitiative,inpartnershipwithAbiquim,
uponfindingthateventhoughBrazilhasextensiveexperience in
thefieldofsolvents,therearegapsintheknowledgethatthepublic
needstohaveforusingsolvents,andalsosomemythsarisingout
of that lackof information, according toFabianaMarra, product
stewardatOxiteno’sPetrochemicalsbusiness.“Thiscommissionis
bornwiththegoalofspreadingknowledgeofsolvents,educating
peopleintheproperapplicationofeachitemintheirproductclass,
demystifying theuseof that product class, andgatheringmore
statistical informationon the theme. Thatwill enableus to raise
the levelofprofessionalizationacrossthesupplychain.”
Perezalsosaysthatthedifferenttypesandapplicationsofsolvents
arestill generally ignoredaswell. “It’sour role tohelpmoreand
more toprofessionalize thesupplychainby fostering theproper
useofeachsolventtype.Webelieve inusingtherightsolventfor
the right application. In this regard, Abiquim’sResponsibleCare
Program ishighlyconsistentwithourprinciples.”
The commission’s stated goals are to improve the image and
reputationof solventsasaproduct class, to spreadknowledge
ofsolvents,theirproperhandlinganduse,andthebenefitsthey
providetosociety,toputtogethersolidstatisticsonthesolvents
consumed inBrazil(domesticand imported),toholddiscussions
withunionsand regulatoryagencies (ANP, ABRAFATI, Sitivesp,
Associquim), tobolster relationshipswith international solvent-
-relatedassociations(e.g.ESIG),totechnicallyadvocatetheuseof
solventswithaviewtoavertingbanswithnotechnicalgrounds,
tosupportand influenceresponsibleproductionanddistribution
initiatives,andtoboostprofessionalization inthemarketplace.
